According to the 2022 Census Bureau estimates, LA County is home to over 9 million people who speak 224 languages*. The UCLA Health system cares for patients who reflect these many nationalities, cultures, experiences, and areas of the city. Preparing trainees to provide patient-centered care within the richness of this community is central to the mission of the UCLA IM REACH committee.

Across our sites, we care for patients with and without healthcare insurance. At UCLA, nearly two-thirds of our patients are publicly insured under Medicare or Medi-Cal (the California state Medicaid program). At the West Los Angeles VA, where we care for a vulnerable Veteran population. 100% of our patients are federally insured. At our partner LA County hospital, Olive View Medical Center, most patients are publicly insured under Medi-Cal.
