The UCLA IM REACH committee is a group of residents, faculty, and staff that aims to advance extraordinary patient-centered health outcomes for all patients, by offering curricular innovation for residency training, developing physician leaders that respect and embrace the communities we serve, advance mentorship within our field, and support outreach into communities across the greater Los Angeles area.

Respect for All

EDI_Equity

We recognize the importance of preparing physicians to provide excellent care to a broad and unique patient population. We are committed to fostering a learning environment that encourages open communication, continual self-improvement and respect for all individuals. In collaboration with the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, our program emphasizes comprehensive clinical training, fosters mentorship, and promotes professional development for all residents to prepare future physicians to meet the evolving needs of patients and the healthcare system.

Education & Scholarship

EDI_Scholarship

We believe that the next generation of physician leaders must be equipped to recognize, celebrate, and communicate effectively with all patients. In addition to our numerous clinical training sites, we have adopted a longitudinal and multidisciplinary curriculum for all residents that spans outpatient didactics, inpatient conferences and departmental grand rounds. This curriculum encompasses topics related to external factors promoting health, populations bearing the burden of disease, and leading patient-centered conversations.Additional opportunities are available to interested residents through our Health Equity and Global Health Pathways. We are committed to academic excellence and benefit from one of the strongest health services research departments in the country.

Service & Outreach

EDI_Service

We believe that it is a privilege to provide care to our community. We honor this privilege by acknowledging our duty to the greater city and county of Los Angeles and to improving UCLA’s commitment to the under- and uninsured individuals of our community. Our residents serve throughout the county at a myriad of federal, county and UC hospitals. We also partner with local organizations - including street medicine organizations, food banks, and shelters - for community service events. These experiences inform our dedication to patient-centered care for all.

Advocacy

EDI_Advocacy

We are committed to change within ourselves and our institution through a spirit of advocacy. Our resident community partners with medical students, residents, faculty, and other staff to engage our health systems in ongoing transformation. We have demonstrated, petitioned, and participated in town halls with our leadership to promote structural and financial transformation within our institution as a means of advocating for better care for all patients, creating a physician workforce that reflects all communities and serving the city we live in.
