The UCLA Internal Medicine Residency Program participates in the National Residency Matching Program [NRMP] and the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) application system. Interview selection is based on holistic review of academic performance, clinical skills, letters of recommendation, scholarship activity, community engagement, and personal characteristics.
A completed application includes the ERAS common application form, personal statement, medical school transcript, a dean's letter, and letters of recommendation. Letters of recommendation should include a letter from the department of medicine chair (or designee) and at least two additional letters. All application materials must be submitted through ERAS. The application deadline is November 1.
Graduates of International Medical Schools must possess valid Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certificates. For more information regarding visas, please see the UCLA Graduate Medical Education (GME) Visa Policy. Effective 2019, the state of California no longer requires a Post Graduate Training Authorization Letter (PTAL) from international medical graduates.
