The application deadline is November 1, but we have a rolling deadline as interview invites will be sent from early October through early November.
-
The Categorical program sends interview invitations out on a rolling basis from the first week of October through end of October. Interview invitations may come throughout November as spots become available. If you applied to multiple tracks, please note that invitations for each track go out on a different timeline.
For Primary Care, invitations are sent out in mid to late October.
For the PSTP track, invitations are sent out around mid to late October.

Yes. Applicants can apply for and be considered for multiple tracks. Applicants will be considered by each program independently, as each program has a separate match list. Applicants will be considered for each track based on fit. For example, if you apply to both Categorical and Primary Care and are selected to interview with both, you will need to interview on two separate days (one Primary Care day and one Categorical day). Invitation to interview within one track does not guarantee consideration for other tracks; the review and interview processes are separate for each track. For PSTP, if you are selected to interview, you will need to interview with the Categorical program and will interview with the PSTP track on a separate date.
-
The IM-PM track is no longer accepting applicants through the Match. Interested candidates can apply internally once they are a PGY-1 in one of our other program tracks.
-
There are 62 Medicine PGY-1 positions:
46 PGY-1 Categorical positions
12 Primary Care PGY-1 positions
4 Physician-Scientist Training Program PGY-1 positions
For Med-Peds positions, see the UCLA Med-Peds Residency site.
-
We do not have a cut-off score. The expectation is that interviewed applicants will have passed the USMLE and/or COMPLEX prior to starting in the program.
-
No.
-
Please see the UCLA GME Visa Policy. Effective 2019, the state of California no longer requires a Post Graduate Training Authorization Letter (PTAL) from international medical graduates.
-
We interview applicants to the Categorical Track on Mondays and Fridays from late October through December. Applicants to the Primary Care Track interview on Tuesdays. Applicants to the Med-Peds program interview on Wednesdays. STAR-PTSP program interviews are held on specific dates throughout the season; applicants to the PSTP track will also interview on a Categorical date.
-
All interviews will be held virtually in an effort to achieve equity in our resident selection process. In partnership with several of our peer programs, the UCLA Internal Medicine Residency Program has decided not to participate in the NRMP rank list lock pilot and will not be offering in-person second looks for the 2025–2026 application season. We hope this decision helps to ease financial and logistical burdens for applicants during the recruitment process and look forward to meeting you on your virtual interview day!
-
We take the integrity of the match seriously. In order to be equitable to all applicants, we are unable to reply to direct inquiries about application status or statements of intent. Applicants will undergo holistic review with a goal to recruit a class that embraces and advances the core values of the Department of Medicine. After the interview process, the residency program will not send direct or indirect communications signaling where applicants stand on our rank list. Additionally, the program does not track statements of interest, nor do we factor such statements into the ranking process. We want all applicants to be confident that your personal qualities, your record of achievement, and your potential to contribute to the field of medicine will be the relevant metrics in the ranking process and that we will never attempt to game the system by trying to assess your interest in our program.
If you have interviewed with us and have questions about our program that will help you make a ranking decision, please reach out to our recruitment coordinator Ms. Tricia Barrow at [email protected].
-
All applicants must submit three letters of recommendations, one of which must be from the Chair of Medicine (or designee). We will accept an additional letter of recommendation up to the limit set by ERAS.

We receive thousands of applications and wish we could invite all applicants to interview with us. In addition to holistic review aligned with our mission, program signals will be used to help us gauge interest when making our initial decision to invite an applicant to interview. Priority will be given to those who signal our program. The Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine (AAIM) recommends applicants signal their home institution and visiting rotations.
