Our dedicated professionals are passionate about improving each patient’s clinical experience. We strive to deliver accessible and affirming care while celebrating the diversity of the people we serve. We respect each patient’s culture, background, preferences and identity. Our goal is to meet each patient where they are and deliver care that works for them.

What Patients Should Know
At UCLA Health, we’re committed to addressing health inequities through initiatives aligned with the leading highest standards of care. These efforts focus on providing safe, equitable, and high-quality care to all patients.
Our Approach to Equitable Care
What Does Equitable Care Mean? Equitable care ensures that every patient receives the optimal high-quality healthcare experience tailored to their individual needs and circumstances. Attaining the highest level of health for all people is our goal. Efforts to ensure that all people have full and equal access to opportunities that enable them to lead healthy lives. We aim to eliminate barriers to care and address disparities in health outcomes.

- Transparent communication and support to make informed decisions about your care.
At UCLA Health, we strive to create a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all. We ask that patients, family members, and visitors:
- Respect Others: Treat patients, visitors, and staff with dignity, regardless of age, race, gender, religion, or other differences. Abusive or disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated.
- Follow Safety Guidelines: Adhere to policies prohibiting weapons, smoking, illegal substances, and unauthorized recordings.
- Be Considerate: Respect the rights of others to privacy, a quiet atmosphere, and a safe environment.
- Communicate Honestly: Provide accurate health information, ask questions, and follow your care plan.
- Continuing Care After Discharge: Ask questions early and often. We are here to set you up to live a healthy life and promote sustained health and well-being.

Our Programs
UCLA Health is dedicated to delivering compassionate, inclusive and equitable care to support all our patients, including our diverse LGBTQ+ community. All UCLA Health team members care for all patients equitably. However, providers with a particular interest and expertise in various care aspects for the LGBTQ+ community have received our "Rainbow U" LGBTQ+ Champion designation.
The EMPWR (“empower”) Program is an initiative of the UCLA Division of Population Behavioral Health. It is designed to promote well-being and resilience in LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning) children, teenagers and adults.
EMPWR provides a safe, affirming environment for LGBTQ+ clients with mental health concerns related to stressful and traumatic experiences.
Gender health specialists provide care for children, adolescents and adults who are transgender or gender diverse. We are dedicated to offering care that is sensitive to everyone’s individual needs.
The UCLA Health Homeless Healthcare Collaborative (HHC) is a direct-in-community program. We provide equitable, high-quality care for people experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles. Care teams that include doctors, nurses, community health workers and social workers offer primary, preventive and urgent medical care, psychiatric care, medical screenings, social service referrals and more.
Since the HHC was established in 2022, our team members have helped thousands of unhoused adults and children by bringing compassionate care directly to them. In the HHC’s first 18 months, team members delivered customized health care through more than 17,000 patient encounters. The HHC continues to grow, adding more mobile health vans and dedicated team members to extend its reach.
