UCLA Congenital Heart 3D Printing Program

3D heart model reconstructed from ferumoxytol

The UCLA Congenital Heart 3D Printing Program creates 3D models for surgical and interventional cardiac catheterization planning. Models are created from the world-class cardiac imaging performed by the UCLA Diagnostic Cardiovascular team. 3D heart models are used for pre-surgical or pre-catheterization planning of many forms of congenital heart disease, including complex biventricular repairs and heterotaxy. Flexible, realistic materials are used to print heart models for pre-catheterization testing of devices including stents and closure devices. Virtual reality computer models are used to gain a fuller understanding of complex cases, visualizing heart defects from both outside and within the heart.

atheter-based implantation of pulmonary valves
3D heart model reconstructed from ferumoxytol-enhanced 4D MRI with volume and flow data used for planning of possible biventricular repair of heart with heterotaxy syndrome.
pulmonary valves
Virtual planning for catheter-based implantation of pulmonary valves.
3d heart print
3D-printed electrophysiology map used for planning of Tetralogy of Fallot ventricular tachycardia ablation.
3d model print of hearts
3D-Printed CHD models for trainee and family education.
3d heart models of left and right heart
Computer based (left) and printed (right) congenital heart models for Pediatric Fellow and Resident training and family education.
doctors reviewing heart model
Dr. Glenn Van Arsdell, head of Congenital Heart Surgery, Dr. Gary Satou, Director of the Fetal Cardiology Program, review a 3D model with Pediatric Cardiology fellows for surgical planning.
Pediatric Interest Group reviews model
