Pregnancy After Loss (PAL) Clinic at UCLA Health
Pregnancy After Loss (PAL) Clinic at UCLA Health is thoughtfully and intentionally developed for families and individuals who have experienced a previous stillbirth or a neonatal loss who want to plan for another child.
At the UCLA Health PAL Clinic, we offer a multidisciplinary, compassionate, and trauma-informed approach to care to ensure that you receive personalized, state-of-the-art medical care while ensuring that you and your family feel supported throughout your family planning journey. Together, we will develop a care plan aimed at achieving a healthy future pregnancy and a positive birth experience.
Our UCLA Health clinic is based on the Rainbow Clinic model pioneered in the United Kingdom and established in 2013 by Dr. Alexander Heazell, an internationally renowned leader in stillbirth research focused on reducing the number of stillborn babies with a commitment to improving care for parents who have experienced a loss during pregnancy. UCLA Health is among the first hospitals to collaborate with the U.S. Pregnancy After Loss (USPAL) Network that aims to improve care in pregnancy after loss - including patient experience, mental health outcomes, and birth outcomes.
Our Services
A pregnancy loss is processed by each person differently and in their own unique way. At the Pregnancy After Loss Clinic at UCLA Health, our expert team of providers offers a whole-person approach to care while offering advanced clinical care tailored to your individual needs. We offer a comprehensive pre-conception consultation and diagnostic tests to help prevent another pregnancy loss. Additional resources include referrals to mental health providers, nutritionists and support groups.
Dr. Carla Janzen, our Pregnancy After Loss Clinic Director, is a Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) specialist who will work in collaboration with your primary prenatal care provider to assess your history and help develop a medical plan for surveillance and help mitigate risks in future pregnancies.
