Inclusive Excellence
Inclusive Excellence
The UCLA Department of Orthopedic Surgery is committed to inclusive excellence and supports DGSOM's fundamental mission to promote and sustain an inclusive environment. We cherish and encourage the diversity of our students, trainees, staff faculty and work to ensure that all members of our community can thrive. In conjunction with DGSOM we believe diversity inclusion celebrates the richness of our individual identities such as gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, socioeconomic status, language, religion, and abilities by supporting inclusive excellence. We achieve both excellence and equity by continuously sharing diverse thoughts and opinions that help eradicate barriers for success, expand research goals, and improve patient care.

Enrichment and Community Committee
The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery has created an Enrichment and Community Committee to support the ideals of inclusive excellence. The goals of the committee are to enhance and improve the six areas of focus including people, structural elements, professional development and education, community engagement, equitable patient care and climate. The committee meets monthly and has supported a yearly inclusive excellence grand rounds and a journal club. The committee also supports two visiting student scholarships for well deserving fourth year medical students who rotate at UCLA. The committee is actively engaged in decreasing the barriers to success and engagement of the community through orthopaedic education and sawbones events. In addition, the committee is also actively engaged in accessibility with our adaptive sports program. The committee strives to support our students, trainees, faculty, staff and patients.
