Geriatric Medicine Clerkship
This is a 2-week clinical experience in inpatient geriatric medicine for 2nd year UCLA medical students participating in the Internal Medicine Clerkship. Students are assigned to the Geriatric Medicine inpatient service at the UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center. Students will learn to evaluate a hospitalized older adult and treat acute medical problems common in elderly persons.
Geriatric Medicine Sub-Internship (356.01)
This is a 3-week elective rotation for 4th year medical students. Experience is provided in multiple settings: acute hospital care at UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center, nursing home care, and ambulatory care. This elective is designed to provide students with a broad perspective of medical care of elderly persons. Students will gain knowledge and skills in the assessment and treatment of diseases common in older adults. Students will learn to recognize social determinants of health that affect elderly person’s physical, mental, and social well-being. This elective is available for UCLA students and students applying through the AAMC VSLO program.
Geriatric Medicine Sub-Internship (456.03)
This is a 3-week elective rotation for 4th year medical students. Sub-interns are assigned to the Geriatric Medicine inpatient service at the UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center. They will be part of a multidisciplinary team of social workers, care coordinators, physical and occupational therapists, pharmacists, and geriatrics nursing staff. Student will gain experience in the diagnosis and management of complex medical problems in acutely ill elderly persons. This elective is available for UCLA students and students applying through the AAMC VSLO program.
