UCLA Health Division of Geriatrics

UCLA Division of Geriatrics
The UCLA Division of Geriatrics is dedicated to meeting its three-component mission of education, research, and innovative clinical care, aimed at providing the highest quality care to older members of our community, particularly those who are frail.
Education
The UCLA Division of Geriatrics is a national leader in education and training in geriatrics and gerontology. As part of our commitment to developing the next generation of healthcare providers, the division offers a wide range of educational programs to students and medicine graduates at all levels of training: undergraduate students, medical students, Internal Medicine residency trainees, Geriatric Medicine fellowship trainees, and practicing physicians. Education is a top priority for our division, and we work diligently to foster an enriching, supportive environment that inspires learning, innovation, and compassionate care for older adults.
Geriatric Research
For more than a quarter century, the UCLA Division of Geriatrics and affiliated institutions have conducted pioneering research in geriatrics and gerontology to advance knowledge of the aging process, the epidemiology of age-related chronic conditions and their diagnoses and treatment, and the efficient delivery of health care to older Americans. The research interests of UCLA faculty span the basic, clinical, social, and behavioral sciences. Our efforts include exciting translational research that bring what is learned at the research bench to the bedside.
Clinical Care
Our mission is to provide outstanding, comprehensive care that addresses all of our patients' needs. We work with each patient and family to craft a care plan that respects their needs, preferences and unique conditions. UCLA geriatricians are specialists in managing the overall health of older persons and treating the medical conditions that frequently affect them, including memory loss and dementia, falls and immobility, delirium, polypharmacy, urinary incontinence, osteoporosis and functional decline.
Education
Faculty in the UCLA Division of Geriatrics collaborate with colleagues in multiple disciplines at UCLA, such as neurology, geriatric psychiatry, preventive medicine, nursing, dentistry, social welfare, public health, business administration, public policy, and neuropsychology to provide state-of-the-art education to all levels of students, residents, fellows, faculty and our community. We work diligently to create an educational environment that will facilitate learning in a variety of settings and venues.

Research
Research conducted by our faculty focuses upon basic cellular and molecular biology of aging, age-related changes in physiology, the clinical epidemiology, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases of older persons, and innovations in the delivery of health services to older adults.
Clinical Care
UCLA geriatricians provide personalized expert care for older adults at every stage of health and level of independence. Our goal is to help each patient achieve their personal health goals and maintain the best possible quality of life. We are here to guide you with compassion, clarity, and respect.
