In 1959, I had an ASD repaired there in Westwood. It was quite an experience for an almost 6 year old kid. Hardly a day goes by and something will trigger a memory of what happened. It was all experimental and and my parents went into it with very little hope. But, having been 60 years ago this September, I am still here and have never had any negative effect from the surgery. The staff always took special care and was the most pleasant memory of the whole experience. Thank you,
Ted

Dr. Williams is hands down an exceptional doctor. My husband and I are from Southern California but live in Dubai at the moment. We decided to come back to California to have our first baby at 36 weeks pregnant. As you can imagine, we were wanting to find the best doctor possible when arriving to the US. We lined up 2 doctors to have initial appointments with. We met Dr. Williams first and she made such an incredible impression for us right away. She was patient with our millions of questions, understanding, extremely knowledgeable, gentle and kind. We connected with her immediately.

When we went to meet the second doctor (who had close to 100, 5 star reviews and barely was able to squeeze us in for an appointment) we couldn't help but miss Dr. Williams. We knew she was the perfect doctor for us and our daughter.

We continued to see Dr Williams and with each visit, we became closer to her. We trusted her with all her decisions and knew she always had our best interest. She was extremely accommodating and always available to see us if we had any questions or concerns.

Once our daughter was born, she continued to visit us daily in the hospital. Dr. Williams didn't just come in for 5 minutes for a fast check (like the other doctors) but instead took the time to genuinely ask how we were doing, feeling and overall well being. Dr. Williams has become much more than just a doctor, she has become our friend and we always look forward to seeing her. We highly recommend her to anyone wanting a doctor that will exceed your expectations.

PTU and PACU staff P.

As much as I have been regularly annoyed and disappointed by UCLA's clumsy and cumbersome systems of procedure, I was almost overwhelmed by the gracious and compassionate care I was given by Nursing and attendant staff during my recent outpatient surgery at UCLA Santa Monica. I was prepped and handled with utmost respect, and my concerns answered with professional and amiable responses. The kindheartedness of the PTU and PACU staff and their professionalism reassured me I was in good hands, and I believe encouraged me to visualize a positive outcome for my surgery, which is no small thing. It was plain to me from the jump that the PTU and PACU staff loved where they worked, which along with their evident love for their jobs eased my mind. My experience has caused me to recalibrate my (now seemingly trivial) complaints regarding UCLA Medical, which I shall now lay off to the problems of all immense institutions.

Been there twice and she has always been so sweet, positive and makes everyone feel 'cared' for. Does a good job handling everything up front solo too.

All of the Nurses R.

Dear Alyssa, Angie, Ashely, Christina, Constantin, Dorcas, Isaac, Leticia, Lourdes, Taline and all the nurses and care partners of 8E,

Thank you for taking such good care of me. Each of you made a difficult situation a little bit easier with your collectively calm, professional, and compassionate way of dealing with me. What you do everyday is just incredible and I felt completely safe in your care. If I said anything angry (I don't think so but maybe at 3AM that one horrible night,) or weird and off the wall (probably, why would hospital life be different from real life) or anything at all that made it seem like for even a moment I didn't appreciate what you all do, blame the oxy. Just kidding, blame me.

Thanks again and I hope I never see any of you again (in the best way possible.)

Best,

Peter S

Arie H.

When you think of the embodiment of compassion what do you think of? I think of Arie and his wonderful actions. Arie exemplifies everything that CICARE stands for. I remember walking past one of my patient's rooms and seeing Arie sitting down with one of my older patients who had Alzheimer's. Arie, utilizing a unit IPad, found the street where my patient grew up and using google maps showed the patient his childhood street. No one told Arie to make this connection with the patient, he is just naturally a compassionate person. Arie made a tremendous impact on that patient's life that day. However this is just one of many examples of the amazing work Arie is doing. I am fortunate to have met him, as he inspires all of us to inject compassion into everything we do. Thank you Arie.

I had an excellent experience with the UCLA retina center. Dr. Jean-Pierre Hubschman is an incredible retina surgeon. My eyesight has returned to near perfect after my surgery. I was really impressed with the facilities at UCLA Medical in the surgery center. I highly recommend the UCLA Stein Eye Center and Doctor Hubschman.

In late 2018 I was diagnosed as having an intradural meningioma spinal tumor. Because of the risks associated with removal of the tumor due to its location, I wanted an experienced surgeon whom specialized in surgery in difficult areas of the spine. After exhaustive research, I learned of Dr. Luke Macyszyn at UCLA and requested a referral to obtain his opinion related to my tumor. It was at the referral visit with Dr. Macyszyn that my wife and I met his assistant, Mr. Andrew Barquera. After it was decided that Dr. Macyszyn was going to perform the surgery, Mr. Barquera contacted us to set up a surgery date, provide us the list of preoperative tests to complete before surgery, and his direct contact information for any questions or follow-up we needed. Additionally, Mr. Barquera advised he would assist us with obtaining the necessary clearance for surgery through our insurance provider, Health Net.
Two weeks before the scheduled surgery date, our health insurance company notified Mr. Barquera that they were denying the surgery because they believed a surgeon in our medical network was qualified to perform the surgery. Mr. Barquera immediately notified me of the denial and spent a significant amount of time explaining my options. After the conversation with Mr. Barquera it was my opinion that Dr. Macyszyn was the most qualified surgeon to perform my extremely risky surgery. I asked Mr. Barquera if he would assist me with filing an appeal with Health Net. Mr. Barquera agreed and got to work. He compiled all the necessary information for the appeal including a letter from Dr. Macyszyn describing the medical need for the surgery to be performed at UCLA. Mr. Barquera spoke with me over the phone on numerous occasions providing updates on the status of the appeal. He promptly answered countless phone calls and emails that my wife and I sent to him and helped us navigate the health insurance nightmare that we were tangled within.
In the end, we were successful in obtaining approval to have my surgery at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center with Dr. Macyszyn. This wouldn't have been possible without the extraordinary assistance provided by Mr. Barquera while serving as an advocate for me in my time of need. It might seem to some that Mr. Barquera was just doing his job, but to me, he went above and beyond what was required of him and earned a debt that I will never be able to repay.
Now that my tumor has been removed, I feel stronger and much of the pain that I was in before my surgery has gone away. None of this would be possible without the expertise of Dr. Macyszyn and the extraordinary support provided by Mr. Andrew Barquera.
The purpose of this letter is to make sure that the extraordinary compassion and amazing customer service provided by Mr. Barquera should be the benchmark for any and all associated with UCLA Health.

My family had the BEST experience yesterday at UCLA Marina Del Rey, and this is our story:

My mother has not had a primary care doctor since hers retired many years ago (she had an outstanding primary that replacing was not going to be easy). Recently she had an allergic reaction that caused her to need to go to an urgent care, and she ended up at the Marina Del Rey office. From the receptionist who answered the call, to the doctor who treated her - everyone was top shelf! When checking out she was told Dr. Goldstein was accepting new patients. She had been so impressed by the quality of care she received by the Urgent Care that she didn't hesitate to be scheduled for a new patient appointment. After speaking to her, both my husband and myself also called to make appointments with Dr. Goldstein.

Yesterday, we had our first appointments, and we haven't stopped raving about this hard-working, kind and dedicated office and doctor! Finding a knowledgeable doctor that you feel comfortable with and trust is not easy. Trying to find that doctor for an entire family can be almost impossible! Dr. Goldstein was the answer to our search. We each presented with our own concerns, questions and issues, and he calmly and patiently tackled each one. His warm demeanor was reassuring and welcoming. We have finally found our doctor, and we are grateful!

Shout out to nurse Juana who is also a SUPERSTAR! What a dynamic duo these two make! Efficient, friendly, helpful and we appreciated the way they coordinated exams and labs to minimize wait time.

Thank you UCLA Marina Del Rey and Dr. Max Goldstein!

When Dr. Anita Agzarian retired from UCLA, I was devastated! To begin building a new relationship with a new physician had me a bit nervous. When my daughter and I met Dr. Reed, we knew instantly that she would be my new Angel of Medicine. She is personable, kind and has a warm and inviting smile. She is patient, yet upbeat and fresh. I am 81 years old and still hold true to the "first impressions count is the last impression" statement. You only have one chance to make it count! She is a gem and a huge asset to your physician community at UCLA. As an added note: The front office and nursing staff are also amazing each and every visit.
