Practice Greenhealth Awards and Recognition
UCLA Health has been recognized as a leader in education, research, patient health, and sustainable practices, among other achievements. The Practice Greenhealth Environmental Excellence Awards are the nation’s premier recognition program for environmental performance in the health care sector. The awards program recognizes health care facilities and health systems for their commitment to environmental stewardship and their sustainability achievements. They also provide health systems with the opportunity to benchmark progress with each other and share best practices.
Green Emerald Award
Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center both received the prestigious achievement for excellence in sustainability. The Green Emerald award recognizes the organization’s ongoing commitment to improving its environmental performance and its efforts to build sustainability and resiliency into the operations and culture of the institution.
Greening the OR Recognition Award
Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center received the Greening the OR Recognition Award which recognizes hospitals that have made substantial strides in improving environmental performance in the operating room. The recognition specifically highlights the efforts to reduce harmful anesthetic gas emissions, promote reusables and reprocessed devices, and complete energy retrofits to decrease energy usage.
Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center was awarded Circle of Excellence (Top 10 program in the Category) recognitions for Sustainable Transportation and Climate. Our transportation teams are working to transition all fleet vehicles to zero emission vehicles, expand upon public transit options, and improve campus accessibility to reduce single occupancy vehicle use. Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center Climate initiatives include decreasing harmful anesthetic gas emissions, setting targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and implementing decarbonization goals. |

Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center was awarded a Circle of Excellence recognition for Sustainable Transportation. Along with decarbonizing transportation fleet vehicles, the Santa Monica transportation team promotes alternative transportation opportunities for employees, including benefits for carpooling, riding a bike to work, and commuting with a zero-emission vehicle. |

The University of California Health system collectively received a Circle of Excellence recognition for Sustainable Food initiatives. UCLA Health is proud to play a key component in this recognition as it promote sustainable and local food procurement, increased plant-based food options, and efforts to reduce waste in its dining commons. |
