Mindfulness Support for People with Cancer
We offer mindfulness resources to support your emotional well-being
What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness means paying attention to the present moment without judgment. You don’t have to clear your mind or sit still for long periods. Instead, mindfulness helps you notice your thoughts, emotions and physical sensations with greater awareness. This practice can help you pause, breathe and return your focus to what is happening right now.
Common Questions
Many people wonder if mindfulness is right for them, but you don’t need any experience to begin.
You may worry:
- I can’t stop my thoughts
- I don’t have enough time
- My mind is too busy
Mindfulness doesn’t require you to stop thinking. It helps you notice your thoughts without judgment. Even short practices can make a meaningful difference.
How Mindfulness Can Help
Mindfulness can support you through various parts of your cancer experience. Many people find mindfulness helpful before scans, biopsies or treatments. These are times when uncertainty can feel especially stressful.
Research suggests mindfulness practices may:
- Create a greater sense of grounding
- Improve overall well-being and outlook
- Increase emotional balance during uncertain moments
- Promote a calmer response to challenges
- Reduce stress and anxiety
Support Throughout All Stages of Care
Mindfulness can help during many moments, from waiting for answers to moving through treatment and recovery. A mindfulness practice may ease worry while you wait for results. It can also support you during chemotherapy, radiation or surgical recovery. After treatment, mindfulness can help you adjust to new routines and ongoing uncertainty. Even a few minutes of focused breathing can help you feel more centered.
