About
Dr. Nimmi Kapoor is a Breast Surgical Oncologist, Associate Professor of Surgery and Director of Breast Surgical Skills and Innovation within the Division of Surgical Oncology and Department of Surgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. After graduating with summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa honors from UCLA, she earned her medical degree at Weill Cornell Medical College, graduating with both Alpha Omega Alpha designation and Honors in Research. She then attended New York Presbyterian Hospital—Cornell for General Surgery residency and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center for Surgical Oncology residency training. During her residency in NYC, she also completed a research fellowship with a focus on breast and endocrine cancers. She then returned to her home in California and completed a Breast Surgical Oncology Fellowship at both John Wayne Cancer Institute and Cedars Sinai Medical Center. While in practice, she became certified in Cancer Genetics and Risk Assessment through the City of Hope. Later she also received certification in Breast Ultrasound and Oncoplastic Surgery.
At UCLA, Dr. Kapoor developed and chairs the annual "Breast Ultrasound, Ultrasound-guided Localization, and Oncoplastic Surgery Course" where surgeons from around the country come to learn these skills. She is passionate about improving patient care through advocacy and surgeon education.
Prior to joining UCLA, Dr. Kapoor worked for Cedars Sinai and created the Breast Program at Providence Cedars Sinai Tarzana Medical Center where she served as Medical Director. She has authored dozens of papers in high impact journals, has written several textbook chapters, and has won numerous awards for her research endeavors. Over the past decade, she has been instrumental in expanding access to quality breast cancer care to residents throughout the San Fernando Valley. She has been named a Top Doctor in Los Angeles Magazine and a Super Doctor in Los Angeles Times numerous times over. Dr. Kapoor currently practices out of the UCLA-Encino and Westwood locations, continuing her commitment to bringing excellence in cancer care to the community. Her areas of interest include oncoplastic surgery, breast ultrasound applications, breast cancer prevention, and neoadjuvant chemotherapy clinical trials.
In her free time, Dr. Kapoor enjoys traveling with her family, scuba diving, and hiking with her dogs.
