SBSM Mini Series: Nutrition Curriculum Focused Session: Saturday, February 22nd | 9:30am-12pm, Arleta High School
Sound Body Sound Mind has just published our most recent update to the SBSM Nutrition Curriculum! Join Denise Alvey, Registered Dietitian at UCLA Health Sport Performance Powered by EXOS, for a concise 2.5-hour in-person training session where you will learn how to into successfully implement the SBSM Nutrition Curriculum, deepen your understanding of healthy eating, and enhance your proficiency in teaching nutrition. Participants will leave with the newest edition to the SBSM Nutrition Curriculum and a healthy recipe. SBSM Mini Series: Inclusive PE Classrooms: Monday, March 10th | 3:30pm – 5pm, virtual
Join Dr. Melissa Bittner, from the Department of Kinesiology at California State University Long Beach for an informative 1.5-hour virtual training session. Join us as we focus on equipping you with essential knowledge and strategies to create inclusive PE environments for students with disabilities in general education PE classrooms. Participants will delve into effective approaches and exploration of practical exercise modification techniques for sport and games. This session is intended for general education physical education teachers.

SBSM Signature Training: Saturday, March 15th | 8:30am-3pm, Marquez High School
Get to know the ins and outs of the SBSM Program! This 6-hour training is perfect for teachers new to an SBSM school and veterans wanting a refresher. Educators will leave with the knowledge of how to run the SBSM Exercise Curriculum, receive the tools needed to conduct the SBSM Nutrition Curriculum, learn how to maintain their SBSM fitness center, and much more! Lunch provided.

Mindful March
UCLA Health Sound Body Sound Mind and UCLA Mindful Awareness Research Center have collaborated to bring you Mindful March! Mindful March is a ten week education unit for physical education teachers to bring mindfulness techniques and practices into their classroom.
This 10 week mindfulness journey began in Spring of 2020, but is still available for you to use. Each course has a video lesson designed specifically for middle and high school students for you to easily implement in your classroom. Mindfulness has scientific support as a means to reduce stress, improve attention, boost the immune system, reduce emotional reactivity, and promote a general sense of health and well-being.
Video Lessons for Teachers
UCLA Health Sound Body Sound Mind has partnered with UCLA Health Sports Performance powered by EXOS! The below video series were created by experts in the field to assist educators in fitness and nutrition lesson planning. Each series includes guided workout or nutrition lessons specifically designed for middle school and high school students.

Coach Julius is a trainer with UCLA Health Sports Performance powered by EXOS. Throughout these 10 videos, he will guide you through a full-body workout that includes a warmup, main focus exercise, and a cooldown.

Paige Foote is a registered dietician with UCLA Health Sports Performance powered by EXOS. In this 15-lesson series, she will provide the basics of nutrition and apply healthy principles to everyday life.

Coach Julius is back again to deliver some heart pumping workouts! Join him as he instructs five special, full-body workouts that incorporate Tabata training and eccentric strength.

The Mindful Awareness Research Center (MARC) is a partner of the Norman Cousins Center for Psychoneuroimmunology within the Jane and Terry Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior at UCLA.

Alliance For A Healthier Generation
The Alliance for a Healthier Generation, founded by the American Heart Association and the Clinton Foundation, works to reduce the prevalence of childhood obesity and to empower kids to develop lifelong, healthy habits. The Alliance works with schools, companies, community organizations, healthcare professionals and families to transform the conditions and systems that lead to healthier children.
California School-Based Health Alliance
The California School-Based Health Alliance is the statewide nonprofit organization helping to put more health services in schools. They aim to improve the health and academic success of children and youth by advancing health services in schools.
Kaiser Thriving Schools
Thriving Schools is Kaiser's all-in engagement to improve health for students, staff, and teachers. On this site, you’ll find the tools and ideas to help you create healthier school environments, build habits for healthy eating and active lifestyles, and support social and emotional well-being.
Orthopaedic Institute for Children
Center for Sports Medicine at the Orthopaedic Institute for Children Director of Outreach and Research, Jennifer J. Beck, MD, and Sports Program Manager, Summer Runestad, ATC, provided SBSM with helpful tips for improving circulation and flexibility, as well as a comprehensive injury prevention program. The Dynamic Injury Prevention (DIP) Program contains warm-up exercises, stretches and plyometrics to address proper techniques for stabilizing muscles around the knee joint. Foam rolling techniques apply to various muscle groups and aid in the reduction of joint stress and inflammation.
Afterschool Alliance
The Afterschool Alliance is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization in the United States whose mission is "to ensure that all children have access to affordable, quality afterschool programs." It uses communications and advocacy strategies to increase public and private investments in afterschool programs.
