Dr. Masha Livhitz is an exceptional surgeon who recently performed a hemithyroidectomy on my daughter (young adult). We chose Dr. Livhitz carefully by considering her extraordinary experience and reviews. At the first appointment I could tell that Dr. Livhitz had studied my daughters records well before entering the room, she performed an ultrasound on the spot, provided her thoughts, recommendations, and then asked what we (the family) thought and answered our many questions. She is a very considerate physician.
This surgery was my daughter's second surgery. The first performed elsewhere. We had expected this 2nd surgery to be more severe from the 1st due to scar tissue. However, the 2nd surgery was phenomenal. My daughter felt well, could move, eat, and walk almost immediately. No pain medicine was needed. This was remarkable compared to the 1st surgery when my daughter was in pain, not able to move her head and neck, which also made it difficult to sleep. This 2nd surgery performed by Dr. Livhitz was great. We could not have hoped for a better outcome and doctor.
Dr. Livhitz, you are very much appreciated.

I highly recommend Dr. Masha Livhits. I had parathyroid surgery 3 weeks ago. It was completely successful. I feel like I have my life back. I was struggling with fatigue, depression and difficulty with concentration and word finding skills. All of my symptoms are gone. Thank you Dr. Livhits.

Dr. Livhits is a first rate, world class surgical endocrinologist, in whose hands I received the highest level of medical care for a full thyroidectomy. This is true as well of her entire medical team and the endocrine center. The care I received pre and post surgery could not have been better, everything was so well coordinated by Dr. Livhits and her team that as a patient I was spared any needless anxiety as a patient facing surgery and recovery thereafter. I never felt my needs as a patient were overlooked. Dr. Livhits and her team were always the utmost confident professionals while also demonstrating compassion and care. I am very grateful to have been in their care for the surgerical eradication and post treatment of my thyroid cancer.”

Dr. Livhits is amazing! If you are looking for a top notch surgeon that has a wonderful personality, look no further. Not only is Dr. Livhits terrific, the entire staff is great, they really work as a team. When you call, they answer. If you have any questions they will answer them and in a timely manner. You really get the feeling they care about you and your situation. If you live outside of CA you are still able to have exceptional care. You can do lab work near you and follow up with Telemedicine. They do this a lot for out of the area patients. It makes it easy to get top notch care. Pheochromocytoma or Paragangiloma? The Pheo Para Alliance has designated UCLA as a Center of Excellence. If you are looking for an Endrocrine Surgeon, PLEASE see Dr. Masha Livhits.

Adrenalectomy at UCLAI received an “Removal of a nodule on my Adrenal Gland” by Dr. Masha Livhits in December 2020. I have reserved writing this review for a few months to reflect on the operation as I healed. I would like to share this procedure has changed my life! My physical health has improved overall and recently at my routine PCP’s office, my blood pressure was 123/80. I just cannot believe it…after all these years with countless of medications, saline solutions, behavioral therapists, etc.—the bottom line was removing the adrenal gland nodule. I will always remember Dr. Livhits sharing that I was the last patient approved before a restriction that all able doctors would be assigned only to COVID patients. The Friday before the surgery, I was not even approved for the procedure, according to insurance billing. This whole journey had to be my destiny as the operation itself went smooth with no complications. I would like to sincerely thank the UCLA Healthcare Team for their outstanding customer service, skilled talent and just really nice people. All staff looked straight out of “Grey’s Anatomy” and I felt very comfortable and confident in their abilities to save lives. I often think…why me? Some very special people thought I was worthy and deserved this surgery and I’m forever grateful! Again, thank you so much, Dr. Livhits, for the care and second chance of a quality life for my future! Satisfied Patient, Las Vegas, Nevada.

Pheochromocytoma Surgery at UCLAIt’s always scary when you get a surprise diagnosis and are told you need surgery. Unfortunately, this isn’t my first time being told this type of news..therefore it’s important to go to the best surgeons. I was told the surgeon for a Pheochromocytoma, is Dr. Livhits at UCLA. I did tele-med visits leading up to surgery and made the hour drive to see her for pre-op and again the day of surgery. Her team is friendly and courteous. UCLA is beyond a top-notch medical facility: they operate like a well-oiled machine. Pre-op, OR, recovery, ICU, etc was probably the best I’ve experienced in my many hospital stays. The team also was friendly to answer any of my home recovery inquires. I highly recommend Dr. Livhits for any of your endocrine surgical needs if you are located anywhere in Southern CA, she’s worth the drive. Satisfied Patient, San Juan Capistrano, CA.

Parathyroid Surgery at UCLAAs a retired R.N., I can, wholeheartedly and without reservation, recommend Dr. Masha Livhits and her team at UCLA Medical Center. I recently underwent endocrine surgery (parathyroid). The entire experience and process, from my initial consult, to the follow-up could not have gone more smoothly. I expected a few snags or glitches due to the COVID imposed restrictions, but I'm pleased to say that I was wrong. Everyone whom I encountered throughout the process was courteous, caring, and professional. Dr. Livhits is exceptional in her experience and knowledge. Her calm, warm, and caring manner put me at ease as soon as we met. She took her time and thoroughly explained the procedure, the necessary pre-op work-up, along with what I should expect in recovery and afterward. She took the time to phone my husband after surgery and gave him a status report and projected time in recovery. She was flexible and considerate about the final post-op appointment; she gave me the options of going in to the office, or making a phone or zoom call. All in all, I can't say enough about the professionalism of Dr. Livhits, and her staff, in making this procedure as painless and stress-free as possible. Satisfied Patient, Thousand Oaks, CA.

Parathyroidectomy at UCLAI’m so glad I chose to go to UCLA Endocrine for my parathyroidectomy. It was a great experience from start to finish. I was part of the patient distance program as I don’t live near LA and all communication was top notch and the process was made easy. After my first in-office visit and ultrasound with Dr. Livhits I knew immediately that I was in good and experienced hands. I left feeling 100% confident in her care and abilities. The entire team, from receptionists, schedulers and assistants, to the nurses and the anesthesiologist were all so kind, knowledgeable and professional. Not once did I feel like my needs weren’t important or that I was just another patient. I am still so impressed with the level of care I received. Thank you all so much for taking such great care of me and making the whole experience that much easier. Satisfied Patient, Santa Maria, CA.

Thyroid Surgery at UCLAI was absolutely terrified when I found out I needed thyroid surgery. I had a choice of doctors and Dr. Livhits was everything and more I was looking for She was so thoughtful and was one of the first doctors that listened to me and my concerns. She was smart and confident and I knew I was in good hands. I never once questioned her experience, knowledge, expertise and skill. She took great care in addressing my physical and mental health before, during and post surgery. I can’t thank enough her and her team and everyone in her office. I’m so grateful.

I’m writing to commend UCLA Health, the UCLA Endocrine Center & the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center for my recent successful minimally invasive parathyroidectomy. Dr. Masha Livhits and Dr. Lauren Orr reviewed the pre-op material submitted by my General Practitioner in Alaska, personally examined, and successfully operated on me less than a week ago. And, I’m now back in North Pole, Alaska, enjoying an early Spring.

Patient Stories - Dr. James Wu
Dr. Wu cares for patients at the Endocrine Center flagship location in Westwood, and also has satellite clinics in Encino, Downtown Los Angeles, and Toluca Lake/Burbank. He performs operations at UCLA Ronald Reagan Hospital, UCLA Ambulatory Surgery Center, and UCLA Santa Monica Hospital.

I saw Dr. James Wu for papillary thyroid cancer, and he was the third doctor I met with to discuss my surgery and options. He took his time, explained everything thoroughly, and was willing to take the most conservative approach, which was to remove my isthmus only. He answered a couple of questions I had by email almost immediately during the pre-op stage, and on the day of surgery, he met with me before surgery and assured me that all would go well. I really felt confident that I was in the best of hands. Following surgery, I was relieved to find out that they were able to remove only the isthmus, as I had hoped for, and he felt confident they got all margins. He called me 2 days later as soon as he had the pathology results to let me know it was successful, and I was able to get on a plane and go on a work trip only 5 days post-surgery. My incision and scar is small and minimal, and overall I am just so happy with Dr. Wu's level of care, ease of scheduling appointments, etc. I will need to follow up with him over the next several years and there's no other doctor I would want to go through this process with than Dr. Wu. Also, the surgical center at UCLA and the whole nursing team were so organized, clean, caring, and attentive, I never felt like just another number. So happy with my experience and happy to be completely healthy now. For any thyroid needs, I would highly recommend Dr. Wu.

I cannot express my gratitude enough to Dr. James Wu and his office, especially Andrew Sanchez. I saw Dr. James Wu in May 2022 for consultation of possibly Thyroid Cancer. The meeting was very pleasant. Dr. Wu is excellent and very knowledgeable. He listened to everything I said and answered every question I had. Even though my cancer turned out not Thyroid cancer and I had to see other doctors, Dr. Wu still answers my questions every time I email him. He always gives me advice and makes sure I get the care I need. Andrew Sanchez, Dr. Wu's financial services representative is the nicest person I have ever met. He answered all my calls and emails regarding my insurance, unlike other doctor's office. He also called every time he got an update from insurance or to make sure I got the appointment I needed with other doctor's office. At the darkest moment of my life, Dr. Wu and Andrew Sanchez made me feel that I am cared. I am forever grateful to both of them.

Patient Stories - Dr. Michael Yeh
Dr. Michael Yeh is an internationally reputed endocrine surgeon for diseases of the thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal glands. He believes that it is ethically imperative for surgeons to help patients to avoid surgery when safely possible, with surgery being reserved for instances when scientific evidence supports a level of benefit that exceeds the risks. He is perhaps best known for performing complex re-operative surgery in patients who have experienced thyroid cancer recurrences, and in those who have had prior failed operations for thyroid and parathyroid disease.

I owe an immeasurable debt of gratitude to Dr. Yeh, the extraordinary ENT surgeon who gave me my voice back and rekindled hope in my life. Following a devastating diagnosis of thyroid cancer that resulted in the loss of my voice due to laryngeal nerve infiltration, I felt lost and uncertain. However, Dr. Yeh's exceptional surgical skills and compassionate care cured me of thyroid cancer and gave me my quality of life back. I can now speak with my grandchildren after the surgery and am very grateful!
When I was diagnosed, my son, an emergency physician, recommended Dr. Yeh to do my surgery. Understanding the gravity of my situation, my son diligently researched the best ENT surgeons across the country, and it was through his expert recommendation that I found Dr. Yeh. It turned out to be a life-changing decision.
From our first encounter, Dr. Yeh's professionalism and empathy were evident. He took the time to thoroughly explain the available treatment options, providing me with a clear understanding of each step we would take. His genuine concern and unwavering support eased my worries, and I knew I was in the most capable hands.
Dr. Yeh and his dedicated team worked tirelessly to expedite my total thyroidectomy. Their commitment to my well-being filled me with confidence throughout the entire process. Under Dr. Yeh's exceptional surgical expertise, the procedure was a resounding success, as he meticulously reconnected the unaffected laryngeal nerve, restoring my ability to speak.
But it was not just his surgical skill that left a profound impact on my life. Dr. Yeh's compassion and caring demeanor provided comfort during my recovery. He ensured that I was well-informed and addressed any concerns I had, walking with me every step of the way.
To Dr. Yeh and his incredible team, I extend my heartfelt gratitude. Their collective efforts have given me more than just my voice back; they have granted me the joy of connecting with my family and spending cherished moments with my grandchildren.
Dr. Yeh truly embodies the epitome of a compassionate and skilled ENT surgeon. If you find yourself in need of expert care, I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Yeh as the finest choice. His expertise has given me a second chance at a fulfilling life, and for that, I will be eternally thankful. Dr. Yeh, you have made an indelible mark on my life, and I am honored to have been under your care.

I'm a physician myself and Dr. Yeh and Dr Wu were absolutely fantastic both as a technically brilliant surgeons and as caring people. Could not recommend more highly. You are in great hands if you are fortunate enough to have them as your endocrine surgeons. Two of my own doctors and one of my doctor's mothers have also been patients, which speaks volumes.

My entire experience with the UCLA Endocrine center was such a positive experience. I live in western Nebraska and when my family Dr and a Nebraska endocrinologist determined that I needed parathyroid surgery, I started "shopping" for the best Dr. and best Endocrine Center in the nation. Dr. Yeh and UCLA were highly recommended by friends in Manhattan Beach, CA and on internet reviews. I was a bit concerned about getting all my medical info to the center, from such a long distance. At my initial appointment (Dec, 2022), I was thoroughly impressed with the entire staff and facility, so deciding to travel to California for surgery in Feb was an easy decision. I feel great after surgery and would highly recommend Dr. Yeh and UCLA Endocrine Center!

If you are still looking for a surgeon to treat your thyroid cancer, you can stop. Please, for your and your family's sake, go make an appointment with Dr. Michael Yeh for consultation. I am a doctor/surgeon and a patient of Dr. Yeh's, diagnosed and treated for PTC one year ago (I'm doing great, BTW). I understand how scary a cancer diagnosis can be, and if I can offer anything to ease your anxiety, it would be to offer you guidance in finding the right surgeon. After my diagnosis, I did my homework, I interviewed other surgeons, and ultimately decided to undergo treatment with Dr. Yeh. He is an excellent surgeon, which is exactly what you need. The quality of your initial surgery has big implications for your prognosis and subsequent care. There are other great head and neck surgeons out there, but you don't want to see the surgeon that does these surgeries occasionally; you want to see the person (Dr. Yeh) that does only this type of surgery, all the time. He also happens to have a great bedside manner and is genuinely a caring person. I'm sorry for your diagnosis and wish you (or your loved one) all the best. Now, please go call Dr. Yeh.

Adrenalectomy at UCLADr. Yeh and his team were friendly, professional, and did an amazing job putting my mind at ease. I felt very safe and good in their presence. From the start, it was apparent that not only the doctors, but the whole Endocrine Center team was very competent in their ability and that I was in excellent hands! Not only was my experience with Dr. Yeh and the Endocrine Center’s team amazing, but so was my experience with the physicians and nursing staff while at Ronald Reagan Hospital and ICU. I cannot say enough about my time at UCLA hospital and would rate my whole experience a 15/10 if I could! Satisfied Patient, Palm Desert, CA.

Parathyroidectomy at UCLAMy experience with Dr. Yeh was excellent. I initially saw him on You Tube and he seemed very knowledgeable and professional. My first office visit was with Dr. Famini and I liked him very much. He confirmed a diagnosis of Primary Hyperparathyroidism and ordered a CT scan and referred me to see Dr. Yeh. I saw Dr. Yeh about 10 days later and he reviewed my medical records and recommended a parathyroidectomy. Dr. Yeh was very thorough and spent time explaining my diagnosis and surgical procedure to me and my husband. He was very kind and I felt confident that I had chosen an excellent physician and hospital. I had my surgery a month later at the day surgical unit at UCLA. The doctors, nurses and other staff were excellent. They were attentive and caring. Dr. Yeh visited me before and after surgery and answered my questions and kept my husband informed about everything. We received written post-op instructions and medications and we spent the night at a local hotel so we would be near the hospital if there were any problems during the night. I had very little pain and only needed Tylenol for a few days. My incision was only about an inch long and the stitches were under the skin and dissolved on their own. I had a video conference call with Dr. Yeh two weeks post-op. We talked about my recovery and he reassured me that said all my lab results were now normal. I only need to take a normal amount of calcium and follow-up with my primary care doctor. I am thankful for finding Dr. Yeh and UCLA. Satisfied Patient, Seal Beach, CA.

Thyroidectomy at UCLAAfter my OB/GYN found a thyroid nodule, I was referred to a local endocrinologist, who did a painful biopsy, and was very short in explaining to me what was going on. Luckily, I was referred to Dr. Yeh, and I feel very grateful to have him as my doctor. The diagnosis was the most frightening thing that I’ve ever experienced, and a referral to have a prompt total thyroidectomy was nerve-racking. Dr. Yeh was calm, reassuring, and always took time to explain things to me thoroughly without ever making me feel rushed. Like most people, I never wanted to have any type of surgery. However, given the circumstances, I am extremely satisfied with his clinic, his demeanor, and the outcome of the surgery. My scar is barely noticeable, owing to his skilled experience as a surgeon, especially in such a delicate and obvious location. Through online reading, I learned that the first surgery is the most important, as it sets the stage for future complications and recurrence. I am appreciative to have been referred to him, and would highly recommend him to any future prospects. Even after the surgery, he responded quickly to questions, and my follow-up with him over these past 10 months has continued to be very positive. The only negative that I experienced was difficulty scheduling such an urgent surgery. I’m not sure if this was a UCLA scheduler issue, or an issue with my insurance, but it did take several calls to get things organized and scheduled. Satisfied Patient, Bakersfield, CA.

Thyroidectomy at UCLAIn September of 2018 I was diagnosed with Medullary Thyroid cancer. I was terrified, for I had just lost my husband a few years prior and had a teenage daughter to raise. Dr. Yeh was my Godsend. By the end of October, he had performed my lifesaving surgery and now, exactly two years later, I am still completely cancer free! I was very lucky that the scariest medical emergency of my life only lasted one month. I like to call it my "hiccup" in time. Minus my battle wound across my neck, which is barely noticeable now, I know that Medullary Thyroid cancer lost the battle to Dr. Yeh. Dr. Yeh has the best bedside manner, is accessible, and has a tremendously kind heart. His expertise in treating/operating on thyroid cancer was imperative to my recovery. He spotted and removed every little lymph node that was ridden with cancer (I had 17 malignant lymph nodes) and did a fantastic job removing my thyroid. My recovery period was about two months, but after that I felt like I was ready to tackle the world again! Satisfied Patient, Los Angeles, CA.

Parathyroidectomy at UCLADr. Michael Yeh performed a thyroidectomy and parathyroidectomy on me four weeks ago today. There is no other doctor in this country that I would have selected over Dr. Yeh. His reputation is excellent, he is compassionate and kind, explains procedures thoroughly and is absolutely top rate in his skills. Another reason that I would have had no other doctor is that Dr. Yeh removed one of my adrenal glands approximately 10 years ago when cancer was suspected. Fortunately, it was benign; Dr. Yeh was able to perform outpatient laparoscopic surgery leaving me with virtually no scars. In addition, everyone on Dr. Yeh's staff and medical team went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable. The post-surgical team came to check up on me several times during my overnight hospital stay and was patient, explained things well and calmed any fears I had. My endocrinologist told me that, in her opinion, the surgery was performed beautifully. Obviously I hope to never need more surgery but if I do need it and it is in Dr. Yeh's field, I would choose no one else. Satisfied Patient, Pasadena, CA.

Thyroid Lobectomy at UCLA
As some of you already know, a few months ago I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer (the best cancer to get, they say). In early March, I noticed a lump on my throat just above my collar bone. I put off getting it checked out, forgetting it was there and then remembering it was there. I finally listened to my wife and went to the doctor. Blood work turned into ultrasounds, three biopsies, and finally surgery to remove my thyroid and the cancer with a lower neck dissection. Now the recovery can start. I tell my story because I want to encourage people to not put off the trip to the doctor. Get your shit checked out and do not wait. Interview a couple of doctors before you decide what to do. Like appraisers, they all have their opinions and are not always in alignment with yours.
I also want to use this post to talk about a charity that you may not be familiar with but which I am committed to supporting in the future. @theyoungandbrave is a charity that helps kids with cancer. The kids are WARRIORS. I can’t imagine being a kid or a parent and have to deal with a cancer diagnosis. The Young and Brave helps those families not just with networking and resources but also financially. If you need a charity to support that truly does a lot of good, check them out. For my real estate friends, @theyoungandbrave has a real estate program designed by REALTORS who want to help. Want more information about this? Please reach out to @garry_eberhardt_realtor I have read that “there is no such thing as a 'good' cancer." Thyroid cancer changes your life. A 90% cure rate does not cure you from living with the disease or from the fear that comes with a cancer diagnosis. Although I am confident of a full recovery after my surgery, this has and will change my life forever.
Thank you to my wife, family, and friends for the support. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. Satisfied Patient, Oxnard, CA.

Parathyroidectomy at UCLAI was very apprehensive about having the hyper parathyroidectomy surgery when I was first diagnosed because I had no symptoms. My blood work showed that my calcium levels were high but I felt fit and was able to surf, run, bike and play sports without problems. Dr. Yeh explained that if I wanted to continue this athletic lifestyle in the future, I would need to remove the hyper parathyroid gland that was causing too much calcium in my system. After my first meeting with him, I felt relaxed and comfortable with my decision to get the surgery.
Dr. Yeh has so much personality! We connected and even laughed together during our first pre-surgery meeting. I felt like Dr. Yeh was thorough with his explanations about the exact things that were going to happen during the surgery. He even drew a picture for me to help me visualize what part of the thyroid was being removed. He explained all of the risks involved and he was so patient when listening to and answering my detailed list of questIons. He also made a huge effort to meet with me before the surgery. He called my husband while I was recovering after the surgery and I met again with him before I left the hospital. I never felt like he was in a hurry to get to his next patient. He honestly seems passionate about making peoples’ lives better and I can tell he loves his job. During my post-surgery appointment, I was so thankful to have the opportunity to review my results with Dr. Yeh and to go over all of my new questions with him, not just someone from his office. He again seemed sincerely happy to hear that I was doing so well and he was delighted to hear that I had just gotten out of the water before our appointment. I was able to surf two weeks after the surgery with no complications.
I had four second opinions before choosing Dr. Yeh to do my surgery and I am so glad that I chose Dr. Yeh. The UCLA Medical Center staff was exceptional and I felt completely safe and comfortable even during the Covid Pandemic. I am so glad that I did not have the surgery done somewhere else. Parathyroidectomy at UCLAI wanted to say again to the team how grateful I am for the care I received. I felt like royalty, a valued human, like someone who mattered to the rest of the world. My family and best friend couldn't take the time off to be with me, so a retired lady from my church was with me, and the team was so incredibly kind to her, and treated her like my family. We hadn't been sure if she would be allowed to visit me in post-op, and truly appreciated the team's kindness in including her in my care so that I wasn't alone. Best, Satisfied Patient, Santa Barbara, CA.

Thyroid Cancer Surgery at UCLA
I love Dr. Harari! When I came upon Dr. Harari’s name while researching surgeons to remove my thyroid cancer, her impeccable credentials spoke volumes! During my consultation, I knew immediately I was not going to need to interview any other doctors. I was instantly put as ease by her caring and kind demeanor. Dr. Harari also took the time to repeat anything I wasn’t comprehending (which was a lot, since I was beyond petrified having been diagnosed with cancer). The scar is barely visible, since she skillfully made the incision in the crease of my neck, so unless I extend my head back, it is completely unnoticeable. If you find yourself in the unfortunate place of needing endocrine surgery, Dr. Harari is definitely the way to go!

This has been a very difficult time in my life. It was a shock to discover that I had cancer. Doctors; Zanocco, Famini, and Moriarty were instrumental in not only curing my cancer, they helped to ease my pain, and fears through their authentic connection to me as a human being. Dr. Famini skillfully diagnosed my condition, and gave me his best advice. When I was reluctant to move forward with treatment in an expeditious fashion, Dr. Famini called me several times. I felt that he was speaking to me as a member of his own family. I’m grateful that he is my doctor. Dr. Zanocco is an extraordinary person. He removed my cancer and saved my vocal cords with such skill and care that I almost feel that I’m no worse for the experience. I can never repay him for what he’s done for me. The only way that I can do this is to pay it forward by living my best life, and achieve my highest level of excellence as a human being.Dr. Moriarty is an expert anesthesiologist he kept me safe for eight hours of surgery, and my pain was minimal after the surgery. This is a great team of doctors, nurses and staff. Everyone is kind and professional. The staff is a reflection on the doctors that are leading them everyday. I hope that you are as proud of them as I am. The world needs more doctors like these three men.
