The UCLA Women’s Cardiovascular Center and Barbra Streisand Women’s Heart Health Program

Our 'Let’s Talk' Event Series is not just for women. We are dedicated to bringing Heart Healthy Education and programs that provide information on ground breaking research, healthy heart and lifestyle tips, an include opportunity to meet our Doctors, and participate in conversations about matters of the Heart and Mindful approaches to your overall health and fitness. 

On Saturday March 16, 2024, the  UCLA Women's Cardiovascular Center presented another successful Let's Talk; Women's Heart Health program. The event was held at the UCLA California NanoSystems Institute. The theme 'A healthy heart is key to thriving at all ages' included a presentation by leading women cardiologists sharing information about the latest research and innovative therapuetics aimed at improving women's health. The panelists included Karol Watson, M.D., Ph.D., Marcella Calfon Press, M.D., Ph.D. Tamara Horwich, M.D., M.S., Anne Saltzman, Psy.D., Janki Shah, M.D., Lua Jafari M.D., Rajita Patil M.D., Jonathan Tobias M.D., Shipra Hingorany M.D., and guest speakers.  Attendees also enjoyed heart healthy snacks during a reception hour that included educational information, table displays, soothing jazz music, and additional UCLA associates and resources.

Last year's presentation took place on Saturday, February 4, 2023. The Center's annual Let's Talk; Women's Heart Health program was held in celebration of American Heart Month and took place at the UCLA Meyer and Renee Luskin Conference Center. Included was a presentation from the Women’s Cardiovascular Center directors and physicians: Karol Watson, M.D., Ph.D. Marcella Calfon Press, M.D., Ph.D. Tamara Horwich, M.D., M.S., Anjani Mattai, M.D. Anne Saltzman, Psy.D. Janki Shah, M.D. and Vijaya Surampudi, M.D. The physicians were joined by special guests including Marin Hinkle who hosted the event.

The Women's Cardiovascular Center is committed to partnering with individuals who care as much about Heart and full Body, Mind & Spirit Health as we do. Ms. Barbra Streisand  shares her thoughts and support in this video clip.

Dr. Anne Heart&Emotions

The heart, often symbolized as the seat of emotion, is profoundly connected to our mental state, and the intricate relationship between emotional well-being and cardiovascular health has garnered the attention of medical professionals and patients alike. 

According to Anne Saltzman, PsyD, a cardiac psychologist at the UCLA Women’s Cardiovascular Health Center, stress is one of the top risk factors for heart disease — the leading cause of death in the country. This connection underscores the need for a holistic approach to health, one that recognizes the influence of our emotional landscape on our physical well-being. Read more

Heart attacks in women

A new training protocol to assist first responders in recognizing and responding to symptoms of heart events in women is being rolled out.

The 30-minute online course was developed by Jolie Busch, a member of the advisory board of the UCLA Health Women’s Cardiovascular Center, along with cardiologists Marcella Calfon Press, MD, PhD and Tamara Horwich, MD, co-directors of the center.

The online module will be used for continuing education in fire departments throughout Los Angeles and simultaneously will be introduced to paramedic, emergency medical technician and UCLA medical students. Read more

A taste of health

'A Taste of Health' aims to demystify healthy eating and dietary habits, and offers you an opportunity to Host an event in your home to share Heart Healthy Living tips and information with friends or associates!

We understand healthy eating habits begin at home!  Healthful habits laid down early will translate into lifelong health. Our Teen group is led by and inspired by teens, and works to get the right message out to teens!

The inaugural “Research that Matters” was held January 2014. Our center continues focusing on cutting edge research for healthy living. Check back for updates  and upcoming programs. 

Faith Central Bible Church

Connecting with vulnerable populations, who have less access to cardiovascular care, is a passion of our center. One such outreach effort  is a research study conducted out of Faithful Central Bible Church in Los Angeles. Over the years, we've created many outreach events to benefit individuals across all age groups.
