Behavioral Health

UCLA’s Gender Health Program (GHP) offers various behavioral health services for children, adolescents, and adults who are part of the GHP.

The GHP behavioral health resources are generally time-limited (about 12 sessions) and problem-focused. For ongoing services after that, our providers will typically refer patients to a provider in the community.

In addition to the GHP psychology team, two additional resources are Behavioral Health Associates, which are available to patients with a UCLA primary care provider, and the EMPWR ("empower") Program, which is LGBTQ+ focused. Patients will need to obtain a referral to Behavioral Health Associates from their primary care provider. For EMPWR, you can contact the clinic at: 310-825-7573 | [email protected]

Patients established with a GHP primary care provider (PCP) or endocrinologist may be able to see a GHP psychologist for short-term psychotherapy. These providers can also provide diagnostic assessments, consultations, and surgical statements of support for GHP-established patients.

Behavioral Health Clinical Services

Patients established with a GHP primary care provider (PCP) or endocrinologist may be able to see a GHP psychologist for short-term psychotherapy or a GHP psychiatrist for medication management. These providers can also provide diagnostic assessments, consultations, and statements of support for GHP-established patients.

Med-Peds Psychology Resident Clinic

In line with the educational mission of UCLA Health and the David Geffen School of Medicine, MPPRC is a virtual setting in which clinical services (e.g., assessment, surgery letter evaluations, psychotherapy) are conducted by a treatment team consisting of supervised, doctoral-level (Ph.D. or Psy.D) Psychology Residents and a faculty/staff supervisor.

The MPPRC team is committed to providing gender-affirming and evidence-based approaches to help you set and meet your mental health goals to align within its short-term model (10-15 sessions for psychotherapy). Faculty and Staff Supervisors are licensed clinical psychologists who meet weekly with Psychology Residents to further guide their progress in helping MPPRC patients meet their treatment goals. Supervisors possess expertise in delivering gender-affirming care to individuals across the lifespan. They also have extensive experience training mental health professionals in gender-affirming care.
