About our unit
Thank you for trusting us with your or your loved one’s care. The goal of our adult intensive care unit (ICU) is to provide excellent, patient-centered care with teamwork and compassion.
Our multidisciplinary team includes physicians, registered nurses, administrative care partners, respiratory and physical therapists, clinical social workers, nutritionists, pharmacists and case managers who collaborate with patients and families to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
Patient and family-centered care is our priority. At the beginning of every shift, your current and oncoming nurses will exchange information at your bedside. We do this so you can participate in your plan of care, but ask that you hold any questions until they are finished.
Visitor guidelines
Please use the intercom located outside of both entrances to enter our ICU. Our staff will check with the assigned nurse before permitting access. When instructed by a staff member, press the silver plate next to the intercom to enter the unit.
Our goal is to maintain patient privacy and provide a calm and healing environment. Please always use the intercom before entering the unit. We appreciate your understanding.
No more than two visitors are allowed at the bedside at any time. We may need to further limit the number of bedside visitors, depending on the bedside procedure being performed, the patient’s condition and/or privacy needs.
Children under the age of 18 are allowed to visit with a supervising parent or adult and may not be left unattended. For the patient’s and child’s safety, please make sure young children are supervised at all times while visiting your loved one.
Be aware that we cannot accommodate requests to change the timing of tests or procedures because they are determined and scheduled according to each patient’s medical needs.
Useful Information
Personal belongings
We ask that all personal belongings, such as clothing, jewelry and wallets, be taken home for safekeeping. Watches, rings, earrings and necklaces can interfere with medical procedures and are easily lost. If your loved one uses glasses, dentures or hearing aids, please inform our nurses and tell the bedside nurse any time you bring an item or take it home. We strive to keep an accurate log of items kept at each patient’s bedside. We are not responsible for any lost or stolen items.
Gifts
Artificial flowers, cards, non-latex balloons and personal photos are always welcome. To control infections, fresh flowers and plants are only allowed for certain patients whose immune systems are functioning normally. Please check with your nurse first.
Internet access
Wireless-enabled Internet service is available in your room.
Cell phone use
You may use your cell phone inside the patient’s room or outside the unit. Please do not use cell phones in the unit hallways. Cameras and cell phone photography are not allowed in our ICU.
Waiting area
Please keep the waiting area neat and orderly. If you have been given a pillow or blanket for your comfort, please return them to the nurse once you are done using them. As this room is shared with multiple families, please do not bring in and store personal items in this room. We are not responsible for any lost or stolen items.
Showers
Showers are available for out-of-town visitors. Please ask your nurse for more information.
Restrooms
The visitor restroom is located in Room 4315, near the south entrance to our unit.
Parking
Convenient valet parking is available 24 hours on weekdays at our main entrance, 1250 16th Street. Discounted parking rates are available for extended periods. Ask our parking or security staff for details.
Privacy & Security Information
Patient privacy is very important to us. When visiting the ICU, you must remain in the patient’s room or in the ICU waiting room at all times.
Patient information will be provided to the patient’s designated or legal representative(s) only (power of attorney, provider orders for life-sustaining treatment, temporary advance directive, appointed surrogate, etc.)
