Summer Mentorship Program for Medical Students
Overview
The eight-week mentored Integrative Summer Research Program in Urology provides medical students with research and mentorship opportunities in the field of urology, with a preference for first-year medical students from schools without a home Urology Residency Program and/or students who have been faced with socio-economic or educational disadvantages.
Details
The Integrative Summer Research Program in Urology includes:
- Development of a mentored research project in conjunction with faculty from University of California-affiliated programs
- Development of foundational research skills (e.g., formulating research questions, selecting research methods, interpreting evidence)
- Participation in mentored research projects with opportunity for publication and presentation of research findings both on the institution and specialty society level
- Longitudinal mentorship opportunities for students that includes:
- Continued mentorship across all medical school education
- Opportunity to perform continued research remotely
- Invitation to return for another mentored research opportunity after the M2 year
- Students will also have the opportunity to return to the institution to pursue their away rotation if interested in Urology subinternship
- Interested medical students from across the country are invited to apply and explain their interest in participating in the Personal Statement portion of the application. Special interest will be given to first-year medical students from schools without a home Urology Residency Program and/or students who have been faced with socio-economic or educational disadvantages.

Award
An award of $5000 will be provided to cover room, board and travel.
NOTE: some sites will be offering housing for the applicants, which may adjust the award amount.
Requirements
- Applicants to the program must be currently enrolled and in good standing in DO, MD, or MD/PhD medical school programs.
- Applicants must be a United States or Canadian citizen, a non-citizen national, or a foreign national possessing a visa permitting permanent US residence.
- Application must meet the minimum standards of the review committee and be submitted on time.
- Applicants must be available during a 6-8 week block during the months of June, July and August (dates TBD).
