Urologic oncologist Dr. Scott Eggener named chair of urology at UCLA Health
Following a national search, UCLA Health has appointed Scott Eggener, MD, as the chair of the department of urology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and executive medical director for urology for the UCLA Health system.
Eggener is a nationally recognized urologic oncologist who joins UCLA from the University of Chicago, where he served as the Bruce and Beth White Family Professor of Surgery and vice chair of urology.
First human bladder transplant performed at UCLA
Historic surgery, the result of years of research, opens the door for improved treatment of non-functioning bladders. The surgery was successfully completed at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center on May 4, 2025. The team was led by Dr. Nima Nassiri, a urologic transplant surgeon and director of the UCLA Vascularized Composite Bladder Allograft Transplant Program.
Research
Our faculty has been instrumental in making major breakthroughs, and some of our discoveries have revolutionized the diagnosis and treatment of urologic conditions, while others have improved upon breakthroughs made at other research facilities or academic medical centers.
