The Trena and Stanley Greitzer Family Foundation has made a $500,000 gift to honor the memory of husband, father and grandfather Stanley Greitzer, who passed away in the summer of 2021. Trena Greitzer and the couple's children and their spouses, Ron and Carolyn Greitzer and Bonnie and Jonathan Barg, wanted to make a meaningful gift to honor Stanley, who was receiving care at UCLA. This funding will benefit the cancer research of Drs. Karim Chamie and Alexandra Drakaki in the UCLA Department of Urology. “The care team at UCLA has been incredible, and our family is forever grateful for the compassionate care given to Stan and our family,” said Trena. “It has been very healing and meaningful for our family to support research with this gift honoring Stanley and the doctors who cared for him.”

UCLA researchers awarded Department of Defense funding to improve prostate cancer treatment outcomes. A team led by Paul C Boutros, PhD, MBA, professor in the departments of human genetics and urology and interim vice dean for research at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and director of the UCLA Health Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center's Cancer Data Science program has been awarded over $2.7 million in research funding from the U.S. Department of Defense to support two projects that will use computational models and DNA sequencing to improve prostate cancer treatment outcomes. The  UCLA Health Winter 2022 Physicians Update details how vouchers expand the reach of living-kidney donations. In a review of data compiled by the NKR, Jeffrey Veale, MD, Clinical Professor of UCLA Urology and Director of the UCLA Kidney Exchange Transplantation Program, found that between 2014 and 2021, a total of 250 donations were made at 79 transplant centers under the voucher program, with six recipients redeeming their vouchers. During that time, the average waiting period for individuals enrolled with the NKR dropped by three months. This issue also details how  UCLA Health launched a pioneering protocol to enable transplant recipients to thrive without antirejection drugs. Jeffrey Veale, MD led UCLA's effort to develop the protocol.
