The BCRTP combines mentored laboratory research with structured instruction and professional development tailored to the needs of surgeon-scientists.
Core Curriculum
Trainees participate in targeted educational modules covering:
- Responsible Conduct of Research and scientific rigor
 - Experimental design, biostatistics, and reproducibility
 - Cancer biology, immunology, and metabolism
 - Translational research and emerging technologies
 - Cancer health disparities and DEIA principles
 
Career Development
Residents receive individualized mentoring in:
- Grant writing and peer review
 - Scientific presentation and communication
 - Leadership and team science
 
Each trainee develops an Individualized Training Plan with their mentors, reviewed annually by the Executive Steering Committee to ensure steady progress toward research independence and future NIH career development funding.
