Letter From the Program Director

Dear Residency Candidate,
Thank you for your interest in the UCLA Med-Peds Residency Program. We are pleased you are considering joining our program, which offers a rigorous academic and clinical foundation in internal medicine and pediatrics. Since our establishment in 2003, we have continually advanced our curriculum and training experiences to prepare residents for success in a wide range of career paths.
Our program benefits from UCLA Health’s nationally recognized excellence—ranked number one in California and in Los Angeles. Residents train across several high-volume facilities within Los Angeles County and gain longitudinal experience at two continuity clinic sites: the Med-Peds Comprehensive Care Center and the Venice Family Clinic. This combination equips our residents to deliver high-quality care across a variety of practice settings, from academic centers to community-based clinics. Our Med-Peds residency has its own Inclusive Excellence committee separate from our categorical programs known as advancing care that is Exceptional, Distinguished and Individualized mEDI-pEDI which meets regularly to commune, discuss and review various forms of academic and clinical excellence for all patients focused topics through a Med-Peds lens.
The structure of our program ensures residents receive strong clinical training while also having the flexibility to tailor their experience to personal and professional interests. Med-Peds residents participate in initiatives focused on the transition of care from pediatrics to adult medicine, the treatment of complex medical conditions across the lifespan, and opportunities to engage in global health.
The Med-Peds Division is part of the Department of Medicine at UCLA, and our faculty are active in a variety of educational, clinical, and leadership endeavors. Residents benefit from mentorship and collaboration with experienced physicians who are dedicated to fostering clinical excellence, professionalism, and lifelong learning.
Los Angeles offers an exceptional quality of life for those who enjoy a mix of outdoor recreation and city amenities. From the ocean to the mountains to the desert, the area provides unmatched opportunities for recreation and exploration year-round.
At UCLA Med-Peds, we prioritize academic rigor, teamwork, and service. We maintain a close-knit residency community that encourages collaboration and mutual support. Our alumni have gone on to lead in a wide range of clinical, academic, and public service roles.
We invite you to explore our program further, connect with current residents and faculty, and discover how UCLA Med-Peds can help you build a rewarding and impactful career in medicine.
Warmest Regards,
Gifty
