Eligibility and Licensure

Physicians committed to a career in geriatrics, who have completed residency training in an ACGME accredited residency in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine are invited to apply. We welcome applications from international medical graduates and offer support for both H-1B and J-1 visa sponsorship.

All applicants must be able to start their fellowship on July 1. Exceptions can be made on a case-by-case basis.

All fellows are required to obtain a California medical license within 180 days of enrollment in the program and must comply with State of California Physician Licensure requirements. More information can be found on the California Medical Board website.

Application Requirements

1. A completed ERAS Application
2. Current curriculum vitae
3. Medical School Transcript
4. Medical School Performance Evaluation (MSPE)
5. A one-page personal statement
6. Three letters of recommendation (one letter must be from your current or past program director. Mid-career applicants should also include a letter from their Chief of Service)
7. USLME step 1, 2, and 3 transcripts or COMLEX level 1, 2, and 3 transcripts
8. In order to train or work at a Veterans Health Administration facility, trainees must provide evidence of registration in the Selective Service program, or evidence of exempt status issued by the Veterans Affairs’ Office of Academic Affiliations (OAA) through a Status of Information letter.  Please click here for more information.
9. Applications must be received by August 15th, in order to be reviewed our Interview Committee

Virtual Interviews

The UCLA-VA Geriatric Fellowship conducts virtual interviews. We recognize the hardships and financial burden in-person interviews place on our applicants, and we desire to ensure a uniform interview process that is equitable to all applicants. UCLA follows guidance from the University of California System and the plan to conduct virtual interviews is subject to change.
