Recognized as the 2023 Climate Champion for North America

UCLA Health was recognized as the 2023 Climate Champion for the North America region by the Health Care Climate Challenge, an initiative that celebrates health care institutions demonstrating exceptional leadership in addressing the impacts of climate change.

Among more than 200 participating institutions from 18 countries, UCLA Health was one of only seven health care organizations worldwide to receive the Climate Champion designation—an elite recognition introduced in 2023 to honor one outstanding institution per global region.

The award acknowledges UCLA Health’s efforts to track, report, and plan for emissions reduction, as well as its proactive approach to climate resiliency. These initiatives reflect UCLA Health’s broader commitment to integrating sustainable practices across its operations and preparing the health system to withstand the growing challenges of a changing climate.

The Health Care Climate Challenge, organized by Health Care Without Harm, encourages hospitals and health systems to develop innovative solutions that mitigate health care’s environmental footprint, strengthen resilience, and advocate for policies that protect both human and planetary health.
