Precision Health

Additional Resources

The Institute for Precision Health (IPH) serves as a collaborative hub for transdisciplinary work across the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, UCLA Health System, and UCLA College.  It brings together faculty with a wide range of expertise across clinical medicine, computer science, engineering, public health, and the social sciences. To ensure the success of the UCLA ATLAS Community Health Initiative, the Institute for Precision Health (IPH) partners with teams across UCLA to deliver and coordinate the following resources.

Discovery Data Repository & Dashboard

The DDR&D is an Analytic-Ready de-identified data repository, a cohort discovery dashboard, and a set of tools and technologies to enable back and front-end access to underlying data. The DDR&D was developed by UCLA's Office of Health Informatics & Analytics (OHIA) to provide researchers secured and compliant access to health system data assets. Learn More.

GenomicsDB

GenomicsDB is the central repository for de-identified genomic and genetic data from consented patients in AWS. GenomicsDB serves as part of a platform for big data integration of genetic, genomic, and de-identified records from patient Electronic Health Record (EHR) which is available to approved UCLA researchers and collaborators.

GenomicsDB currently provides two query paths:

  • Scientific notebook – Zeppelin using Scala
  • i2b2 plug-in – returns a cohort selection count based on genotype filter

QCBio Collaboratory

The QCBio Collaboratory provides complimentary interactive workshops led by fellows, covering the latest advancements in next-generation sequencing techniques. Students, faculty, staff and researchers who would be interested in these interactive workshops can register here.

Biobank AI

Biobank AI is a graduate-level course focused on applying artificial intelligence and machine learning to biobank-scale electronic health record (EHR) and genomics data. Offered within UCLA’s Data Science in Biomedicine MS program, the course prepares students to work with real-world biomedical data in support of precision health research.

The course is a collaborative effort between the UCLA Institute for Precision Health and the UCLA Department of Computational Medicine, bringing together clinical, genomic, and computational perspectives. Students gain hands-on experience working with UCLA’s ATLAS biobank and engage in projects inspired by ongoing precision health and genomic research initiatives.

Biobank AI emphasizes practical methods for integrating EHR and genomic data, model evaluation in diverse populations, and responsible use of AI in biomedical research, including considerations of bias, fairness, and privacy. Learn more.

Informatics for Integrating Biology & the Bedside (i2b2) Cohort Discovery System

UCLA i2b2 is a web-based application that enables UCLA investigators to identify potential research study cohorts using clinical data resources obtained through the UCLA Health System. Users can conduct interactive searches of data derived from patient care activities at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center and other UCLA-affiliated clinics and departments. Translational Pathology Core Laboratory (UCLA ATLAS Precision Health Biobank/Honest Broker)

TPCL is a CAP accredited biorepository and research facility in the UCLA Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and a UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center Shared Facility. Learn More.

UCLA Neuroscience Genomics Core (UNGC)

UNGC offers array based genotyping and methylation screening services and both short (Illumina SBS) and long read (PacBio HiFi) sequencing services in the Gonda research facility on the UCLA Westwood campus. Learn More.
