A Shared Mission: Better Care Through Collaboration

At UCLA Health, we believe patients and families are essential partners in delivering exceptional care. Your perspective helps us understand what’s working, what needs improvement, and what truly matters in the patient experience.

That’s why we’ve created opportunities for you to share your ideas, feedback and lived experiences — directly influencing policies, programs and day-to-day practices. Whether you have a single suggestion or want to work alongside staff on ongoing projects, your voice can help shape the future of care.

Our Patient and Family Advisory Councils (PFACs) allow us to:

  • Listen to the voices of those we serve
  • Learn from diverse perspectives and lived experiences
  • Act on insights to improve safety, quality and patient satisfaction

The UCLA Health Digital Patient Panel

The UCLA Health Digital Patient Panel is a new way for patients, loved ones and caregivers to make their voices heard — anytime, from anywhere.

Panel participants are invited to:

  • Complete brief questionnaires about care experiences, facilities and programs
  • Review educational materials before they’re shared with patients
  • Share feedback on proposed changes and new ideas

Why join?

  • Participate online on your own schedule
  • Help shape decisions that affect patients across the UCLA Health system
  • Increase representation from communities that may not be able to attend in-person meetings

Who can join?

Anyone who has been a UCLA Health patient — or supported one — within the last five years can join. We ask that members complete at least one to two engagement opportunities a year.

Traditional Patient and Family Advisory Councils (PFACs)

For those who want a deeper, ongoing role, our Patient and Family Advisory Councils (PFACs) bring together patients, family members, clinicians and staff to work as a team.

PFAC members meet regularly (often monthly) for a year to:

  • Discuss current challenges and opportunities
  • Co-design projects to improve care and communication
  • Review materials and processes to make them more patient-friendly

Councils are often focused on a specific hospital, department or specialty. Past successes include simplifying discharge paperwork and developing a nurse liaison role to keep families informed during surgical delays. Other PFAC accomplishments include:

  • Call Bell Initiative
  • Developed Pediatric Passport
  • Established resource section in myUCLAhealth patient portal
  • Redesigned myUCLAhealth, added equity, diversity and inclusion questionnaire
  • Optimized myUCLAhealth Bedside
  • Patient Safety Initiatives
  • Created the Patient Wellness Bedside Guide

Participation in PFACs is limited due to group size, and most councils require an application, interview, training and a year-long commitment.
