Since 1991, the UCLA Longevity Center has focused on helping people live better, longer. It achieves this mission through cutting-edge research, innovative education, comprehensive patient care, and effective community service. By translating scientific discoveries into practical applications, the Center has distinguished itself as a pioneering leader in the field of longevity and aging well.

The Center’s commitment to improving quality of life focuses on lifelong learning, healthy aging practices, and early detection and prevention of age-related maladies, including memory loss and cognitive decline. Research shows that leading a healthy lifestyle can reduce the risk of age-related cognitive decline, and lower the risk for disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease. Although people are living longer worldwide, their health in later years can be plagued by chronic illnesses and decline. Living a healthy lifestyle can help narrow this healthspan and lifespan gap. Memory loss, when severe, becomes a chronic health issue. Age is the single greatest risk factor for developing memory loss. In 2025, it is estimated that 7.2 million Americans aged 65 and older are living with Alzheimer's disease. UCLA scientists and others will continue to pursue a cure. In the meantime, we have made great strides in our understanding of both genetic and non-genetic, including lifestyle,  factors that impact Alzheimer’s risk and the quality of life as people age. It’s never too late to start living a healthy lifestyle to reduce the risk of cognitive decline.
