Acne vulgaris is one of the most common skin disorders treated by dermatologists. Acne can range in severity from mild disease to more severe and recalcitrant disease, including nodulocystic lesions and lesions on the back and chest. Acne may also lead to significant scarring and dyspigmentation. At the UCLA Acne Specialty Clinic, we use a multidisciplinary approach to treat mild, moderate and severe and recalcitrant acne that has failed conventional therapy. Pediatric acne patients are supervised by board-certified pediatric dermatologists, Dr. Marcia Hogeling and Dr. Carol Cheng; the adult acne clinic is supervised by Dr. Cheng. We utilize topical and systemic medications, hormone therapy, as well as procedures such as microneedling for acne scarring and perform injections of cysts and scars. Peels, laser and light treatments are also offered. These are done in our acne procedural clinics by Dr. Cheng and in our cosmetic clinics by Dr. Jenny Kim. We also treat acne scars and dyspigmentation with peels, lasers, surgery and injectable fillers. Our clinic offers innovative and novel treatments and clinical trials for patients.
Acne clinic is offered every Thursday morning. Dr. Cheng directs the acne procedure clinic. Though not life-threatening, acne can seriously impact the psyche of an affected individual. We approach our patients with compassion, understanding, and an open mind in order to meet our mutual goal of clear and healthy skin.
