Division chief

Dr. Richard J. Shemin is a renowned leader in cardiothoracic surgery, serving as Chief of Cardiac Surgery and Co-Director of the Cardiovascular Center at UCLA. A pioneer in minimally invasive and robotic-assisted procedures, he has advanced treatments for valve repair, aortic stenosis, and atrial fibrillation.

As Program Director for UCLA’s Cardiothoracic Residency, Dr. Shemin is committed to training future surgeons while driving innovation through clinical trials and over 340 publications. His work has earned numerous accolades, including induction into the Academy of Master Surgeon Educators.
