Application Process

Residency applications are submitted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). The program’s accreditation ID is 3000511034. 

We require that applicants register with the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) and submit the appropriate application materials. The NRMP program numbers are:

Training Tracks

Our residency program offers a variety of training pathways to meet the diverse career goals of our applicants.

Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (AP/CP): A comprehensive four-year track that provides broad training in both anatomic and clinical pathology, preparing residents for a wide range of practice settings. Applicants should indicate their interest by selecting number NRMP program code 1956300C0.

Anatomic Pathology (AP Only): A focused three-year track for those pursuing a career in surgical pathology, autopsy pathology, or a subspecialty within anatomic pathology. Applicants should indicate their interest by selecting number NRMP program code 1956300C0.

Clinical Pathology (CP Only): A three-year track designed for residents interested in laboratory medicine, including transfusion medicine, microbiology, chemistry, and hematopathology. Applicants should indicate their interest by selecting number NRMP program code 1956300C0.

Anatomic Pathology/Neuropathology (AP/NP): A three-year combined track that integrates training in anatomic pathology with an emphasis on neuropathology, ideal for those pursuing a career in brain and nervous system pathology.

Applicants interested in the Research Track should indicate their interest by selecting NRMP program code 1956300C1 when submitting their NRMP codes via the match system. This ensures the application is reviewed specifically for this highly competitive track.

We strongly recommend that applicants include details about their future research career goals in their personal statement. This track is intended for individuals with significant prior research training and a strong commitment to a career as a physician-scientist. Only one position is available each year.

Program Signaling and Geographic Preferences

  • Applicants who signal our program will have priority application review; however, signaling does not guarantee an interview.
  • Applicants with geographic preferences which include pacific or those who indicate no geographic preference will have priority review. However, having these preferences does not guarantee an interview.
