THINQ Collaborative

The Healthcare Improvement and Innovation in Quality (THINQ) Collaborative Program for UCLA Students and Post-graduates

About Us

The Healthcare Improvement and Innovation in Quality (THINQ) Collaborative, established in May 2014 by the UCLA Department of Medicine’s Quality Program, brings together current UCLA students and recent graduates committed to advancing healthcare through an interdisciplinary approach. THINQ fosters the next generation of healthcare leaders by emphasizing collaboration, research, and innovation through mentorship and professional development. The program includes quality improvement research, physician shadowing, and speaker events featuring experts from diverse healthcare fields, offering insights into a broad range of industry topics impacting patients and healthcare professionals.

THINQ fellows work directly with interprofessional teams, including those at Ronald Reagan and Santa Monica UCLA Medical Centers, to address real-world clinical challenges. As the only undergraduate organization on the UCLA campus dedicated to quality improvement—a focus typically reserved for graduate-level studies—THINQ offers a unique platform. Fellows engage in quality improvement research within UCLA Health’s ambulatory clinics and addiction medicine centers across Los Angeles, building invaluable skills to tackle complex issues in healthcare.

After graduating, most students pursue graduate or professional schools, employment in healthcare, or research positions. After completing the THINQ program, many volunteers remain strongly interested in working in the field as part of their career trajectory, with several continuing quality improvement initiatives across hospitals in the US.
