2024-2025 Regional Anesthesiology & Acute Pain Medicine Fellow Profiles

Benjamin Carnes, MD
Hometown: Findlay, OH
Undergraduate: Ohio University, BS, Biological Sciences, Chemistry
Medical School: Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine
Why UCLA: After many years in the Midwest, I was looking for a new experience and new connections. UCLA offered everything I wanted. On my interview day, I could tell the fellows were very happy with their decision to match here. They were working with catheters and doing unique blocks, gaining experience with thoracic epidurals, and practicing as attendings in the ORs weekly, all while enjoying their weekends free in LA. I'm experiencing it now, and it's been just as great as advertised.
Dr. Benjamin Carnes is a three time fantasy football champion and one time recreation volleyball league champion. His interests include reading, television, sports, food, and travel.

Jared Katz, MD
Hometown: New York City, NY
Undergraduate: Johns Hopkins University, BA, Public Health Studies
Medical School: Temple University
Why UCLA: I chose UCLA because I knew I would gain expertise in aspects of regional anesthesia that I think are really cool, particularly the peripheral nerve catheter program and thoracic epidural analgesia. I also wanted to explore Southern California and once I realized I would spend most of the year working in Santa Monica, UCLA was an obvious choice.
Dr. Jared Katz is a New York City native that loves trying new restaurants, listening to hip hop, and playing tennis. He came out to UCLA for fellowship to enjoy the warm weather and further develop his passion for and expertise in regional anesthesia.
