HERSTORY Study

Hereditary Exploration and Research for Screening and Testing for Oncology Risks in Women 

UCLA Health is seeking women to join the UCLA HERSTORY study. This is a large study that aims to understand the risk factors for cancer diagnosis in women with a family history of the disease, with a focus on underrepresented minorities. The study will offer clinical genetic analysis at no cost and will create a biorepository with future opportunities for longitudinal participation in research projects. 

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Gender/age: Female, age 35 or older
  • Family history of cancer: First- or second-degree relatives
  • Diversity in research: Identify as an underrepresented minority
  • UCLA patient: Current or past patient

How to participate

Participation includes the following activities:

  • Sign consent
  • Clinical genetic testing
  • Questionnaire
  • Blood draw

You may receive compensation up to $120 in gift cards for your time and participation.

About this study

The HERSTORY study is conducted by the UCLA Health Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center. The principal investigator is Vivian Chang, MD, MS. Co-investigators are Paul Boutros, PhD, MBA; Beth Karlan, MD; and Mariana Neill Swiller, MS, CGC.
