UCLA SPOREs in Cancer
Specialized Programs of Research Excellence
The National Cancer Institutes (NCI) currently funds Specialized Programs of Research Excellence grants, or SPOREs, which are located at select academic centers in across the United States. The brain and prostate cancer programs at the UCLA Health Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center have each been designated a SPORE by the NCI, making them among the select few such programs nationwide to receive this national recognition and substantial research funding.
SPORE in Brain Cancer
As a designated SPORE site, the UCLA Brain Tumor Program supports research into the prevention, detection and treatment of one of the most lethal and deadly cancers, which often receives far less funding than other types of cancers.
SPORE in Prostate Cancer
The UCLA SPORE in Prostate Cancer seeks to contribute significantly to progress in the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of prostate cancer, which is accomplished through multiple and varied research projects in basic science and population-based research,
