Vaccine Information: What You Need to Know

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) recommends that everyone ages 6 months and older should have access and the choice to receive COVID-19 vaccines.

UCLA Health offers the 2025–2026 Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for patients ages 12 years and older and the 2025–2026 Moderna COVID-19 vaccine for patients ages 6 months to 11 years. The type of vaccine available at UCLA Health clinics may vary.

To get the updated vaccine before mid-October, you will need an order from your doctor. You can get an order by requesting the vaccine during an appointment, or by contacting your doctor's office by phone or through myUCLAhealth. After mid-October, most patients over the age of 5 years old will be able to self-schedule without contacting their doctor first.

Most insurance plans have assured that they will cover the cost of 2025-26 COVID-19 vaccines. Please check with your individual insurance plan if you are unsure.

Who Should Get the COVID-19 Vaccine?

Everyone 6 months of age and older should have the option to get the COVID-19 vaccination, according to the CDPH. It also stresses the importance of extra safeguards for populations who are more susceptible to serious sickness, such as:

  • Infants and toddlers
  • Pregnant people
  • Others who are at higher risk for serious disease

For patients who are immunocompromised or have other special circumstances, please talk to your doctor about the best plan for your health, as additional doses may be appropriate.
