About
Dr. Trudy Wu is an Assistant Professor at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, where she specializes in the treatment of gastrointestinal malignancies. She completed her undergraduate studies in Biology at The Ohio State University and earned her medical degree Magna Cum Laude from The Ohio State College of Medicine, where she was inducted into the Landacre Research Honor Society for her scholarly achievements.
Dr. Wu’s academic and clinical work has increasingly focused on advancing the care of patients with gastrointestinal cancers, with a particular research interest in cholangiocarcinoma. Her work has been published in leading journals including JAMA Oncology and the International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology, Physics, with over fifteen first-author publications to date.
At UCLA, Dr. Wu is actively engaged in institutional initiatives aimed at enhancing education, mentorship, and professional development for medical students and trainees. She plays an evolving role within the educational leadership community at DGSOM, contributing to curriculum design and resident teaching. She also created and hosts the At The Beam podcast, a widely used resource for oncology education among early-career professionals.
Nationally, Dr. Wu is recognized for her contributions to medical education and mentorship. In 2024, she received the ARRO Resident Educator of the Year award. She currently serves as Chair of the ROCKET (Radiation Oncology Career Knowledge for Early Career Trainees) Task Force within the American Radium Society and is a member of its Executive Committee.
Motivated by a personal connection to cancer, Dr. Wu is deeply committed to improving outcomes for patients with cholangiocarcinoma and has served as a Research Advocate for The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation since 2019.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Dr. Wu is an accomplished marathon runner, finishing 28th in her age group at the Los Angeles Marathon. She is also a former figure skater and has passed both her senior free skate and moves in the field with the US Figure Skating Association.
