Sonal V. Phatak, MD
About
My name is Dr. Sonal Phatak. I practice endocrinology at UCLA Health in Santa Barbara. I have been board-certified as an endocrinologist since 2012. I enjoy being an endocrinologist as I get the opportunity to help patients manage various endocrine (hormone) conditions, including diabetes, thyroid disease, obesity, osteoporosis, overactive parathyroid (hyperparathyroidism), PCOS, hypogonadism (low testosterone), adrenal, and pituitary conditions.
I completed my undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences at the University of California, Riverside in 1999. I then completed medical school at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA in 2003. From 2003 to 2006, I did a residency in Internal Medicine at the Loma Linda University Health System. Then, from 2010 to 2012, I did fellowship training in endocrinology at the University of California, San Diego Health System.
I have worked as an attending physician at several institutions before joining UCLA. Prior to endocrine fellowship training, I worked for 2 years in the emergency department at the Loma Linda University Veterans Administration hospital and also worked for 2 years as a primary care provider at the Loma Linda University Health System in Murrieta. Before joining UCLA Health, I had the pleasure of practicing for over a decade at UC Davis Health in Sacramento while serving both as co-director of the Endocrine fellowship program and overseeing the weekly endocrine fellowship continuity clinic.
In my free time, I enjoy hiking, traveling, cooking, astronomy, and science fiction. I am a member of the Endocrine Society and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology (AACE).
