About

Nicholas TK Do MD FACS is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. Dr. Do was born in Honolulu, Hawaii before his family moved to Orange County, California. He earned his Bachelor’s degrees in both Anthropology and Integrative Biology at the University of California, Berkeley. Out of his graduating class, he was chosen to deliver the Integrative Biology class graduation speech. It was his interest in physical anthropology and human evolution that drove him to pursue a career in medicine. He left the University of California for the Ivy League and received his MD from Dartmouth Medical School.

After completing medical school, Dr. Do matched into Integrated Plastic Surgery Residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He was then selected from a group of international applicants for an additional fellowship year specializing in Microsurgery at Chang Gung Medical Center with Professor Fu Chan Wei. There he trained further in complex head & neck reconstruction, transplanting blocks of tissue from distant areas of the body. Dr. Do then spent an additional year in Chang Gung’s Vascularized Composite Allotransplantation Laboratory studying vascularized bone marrow transplant for use in face and hand transplantation.

His last year of training was spent at the University of Michigan Craniofacial Fellowship with Dr Steven Buchman. This additional year was to understand all manner of operations for the facial skeleton including fracture repair, orthognathic surgery, distraction osteogenesis, and craniofacial osteotomies. In addition, he was trained in pediatric plastic surgery, cleft lip & palate surgery, and ear reconstruction.

Dr. Nicholas Do is one of the few dual fellowship trained plastic surgeons in the country in both Microsurgery and Craniofacial Surgery. His combined skill sets allow for any and all options to be brought to bear in all conditions seen in plastic surgery of the face. From his university studies in Anthropology, Dr. Do is acutely aware of the importance of the appearance of the human face. Dr. Do offers the full spectrum of procedures for plastic surgery of the face but is particularly interested in aesthetic complex reconstruction of the face after severe trauma, cancer, or birth difference. In addition, he performs facial feminization and masculinization where he balances reducing or restructuring the facial skeleton with redraping the soft issues for a more aesthetic gender affirming result. He also performs aesthetic procedures, including non-surgical filler and neuromodulators, and has a particular interest in revision functional & aesthetic rhinoplasty.

Dr. Do firmly believes that any plastic surgery of the face, whether reconstructive or cosmetic, must achieve the normal aesthetic contours of the face. As one of his mentors has stated, “The function of the face is to look like a face.”
