About
Dr. Boland is a dual board-certified sports medicine and family medicine physician who takes care of athletes and active individuals of all ages. He specializes in non-surgical orthopedic conditions of the knee, shoulder, hip, ankle, elbow, and wrist including osteoarthritis, tendonitis, and other chronic over-use injuries. He is an expert in the use of musculoskeletal ultrasound for the purpose minimally invasive, office-based orthopedic procedures.
Dr. Boland has served as the team physician for multiple high school, college, and professional teams during his career. He completed his primary care sports medicine fellowship at UCLA where he served as the head team physician for UCLA baseball, tennis, and golf. He served as the assistant team physician for the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2022-23 season and the Los Angeles Dodgers during both the 2022 and 2023 campaigns. He has also served as the local team physician for several high schools including Santa Monica and Beverly Hills High.
Dr. Boland has published research in peer-reviewed journals investigating the effects of sleep and athletic performance as well as injury risks of youth marathon training. Currently, he is seeing pediatric and adult patients in the UCLA Health Malibu Clinic for both general primary care and sports medicine. When he is not working, he enjoys playing beach volleyball, skiing, and traveling.

I reviewed MRI results with Dr Boland and learned that I had my first “arthritis flare”. I have some worn cartilage and a small tear in a meniscus but nothing too serious. Dr Boland did a terrific job of explaining the clinical situation and next steps I may want to consider. Plus he encouraged me to maintain my physical activity to keep up my strength. Overall a very good discussion.

I hurt myself , called in am for an appt was told no appts available i was told to go to immediate care. When i arrive i asked if there had been any cancellations for any of my doctors. Dr Boland had a cancellation and so he saw me . I had tripped over a piece of pool equipment and broke my fall with my hands. 2 fingers were broken. He fixed me up after xray. Dr Boland is hands down the most effective doctor I’ve had as my primary physician. His memory is incredible, he’s compassionate, he’s knowledgeable, and I very much appreciate how considerate he is of his patient’s time. He has been very responsive and I appreciate that he attempts the most conservative/noninvasive measures first. He is great at explaining what’s going on and the treatment process. I’m so happy he’s my doctor now.
