Dr. Michal (Michael) Kasperkiewicz is a Clinical Professor of Dermatology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.
Dr. Kasperkiewicz obtained his medical degree from the University of Hamburg (Germany) and completed both his dermatology residency and dermatopathology fellowship at the University of Lubeck (Germany) where he later served as a Professor of Dermatology. Prior to joining faculty at UCLA, Dr. Kasperkiewicz worked as Clinical Associate Professor of Dermatology at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California.
While Dr. Kasperiewicz is seeing patients with a variety of different skin diseases, his clinical expertise and research focus are autoimmune blistering skin diseases including the diagnosis and treatment of pemphigus and pemphigoid. Dr. Kasperkiewicz has conducted several clinical, epidemiological, and experimental studies on pemphigus/pemphigoid, partly together with the International Pemphigus and Pemphigoid Foundation. He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed scientific publications in high-ranking journals such as the Lancet. He has been the globally most cited author on pemphigus since 2011.

I thought that Dr. Kasperkirwic was excellent. I had a great and quick appointment. I thought there might have been a little language barrier because when I ask for some of the sun spots to be addressed, he had a question about the insurance and whether it would pay for it or not. Then I said something to the effect out of it’s for my wife because she doesn’t like the sun spots, he said OK let’s do it. So I hope that works out.

Dr. was great. I thought I had a few different derma-logical problems. Dr. K listened to everything I was concerned about. He checked all my concerns and assured me that everything was OK. He was polite and professional. But he didn’t give me as much information without my asking first. My chart notes say that “ Procedures, risks, (including pain, scarring, hypopigmentation, hyperpigmentation, incomplete removal, recurrence, blister and wound formation), benefits, and alternatives discussed with patient” for one procedure and “ Procedure, risks (including infection, scarring, bleeding, pain, incomplete diagnosis, lesion recurrence), benefits, and alternatives explained to the patient.” for the other but that much detail was not given to me prior to the two procedures, I was given sparing details and other information I got I had to ask for. I know these appointments are meant to be brief, and I was late, but it’s more important to give time to thoroughly discus all details. I also was given brief instructions on caring for one of the procedures but not the other, and those instructions don’t appear to be in my chart for reference.
