Dr. Marcia Russell is an Associate Professor in Residence in the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.
Marcia Russell graduated from the General Surgery training program at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2010. Following this she underwent specialized Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship training at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Massachusetts from 2010-2011. Dr Russell is board certified in both General Surgery and Colon and Rectal Surgery. She returned to UCLA in 2011 as a full-time colon and rectal surgeon at the Veterans Affairs (VA) Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System. In 2018, Dr. Russell started seeing patients at UCLA with benign anorectal conditions that can be managed with outpatient procedures including anal abscess/anal fistula, anal condyloma, anal fissure, hemorrhoids, and pilonidal disease.
Dr. Russell is a nationally recognized health services researcher with formal research training through the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program and PhD coursework from the UCLA School of Public Health. She has received grant funding from multiple sources including the Conquer Cancer Foundation of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, John A. Hartford Foundation, National Institute on Aging, VA Health Services Research and Development, and VA National Center for Patient Safety. She has a special interest in geriatric surgery and has been actively involved with the development of the American College of Surgeons Geriatric Surgery Verification Program.

Dr. Russell is surgical outcomes and health services researcher with the primary research interests of outcomes after colorectal surgery (including quality of life outcomes after rectal cancer surgery) and geriatric surgery. She is a nationally recognized expert in the surgical care of older adults and has helped to lead the effort to improve the quality of geriatric surgical care through the American College of Surgeons Geriatric Surgery Verification Program.
