Lisa A. Nicholas, MD

Dr. Lisa A. Nicholas has been a practicing physician devoted to obstetrics and gynecology for the past 30 years. She has dedicated her entire professional career in medicine to providing quality health care to all women, irrespective of their race, ethnicity, or economic status. Originally from Buffalo, New York, she earned her medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine.  Dr. Nicholas then moved to California for internship and residency training at Martin Luther King, Jr. Hospital in South Central Los Angeles. Her varied experience in clinical practice includes delivering direct patient care in private practice, multispecialty medical groups, and community based public funded clinic settings.

Before joining the faculty at UCLA Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Nicholas’ practice experience includes work at The Geneva B. Scruggs Community Health Center providing quality medical services for the indigent and medically underserved patient population in Buffalo, as well as at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital of Buffalo and the Community Health Center of Buffalo at Erie County Medical Center where she focused on the care of women veterans who has served in Desert Storm.

In addition to her clinical work at UCLA, Dr. Nicholas has expanded her professional scope of practice to encompass medical education. This was driven by a desire to influence young physicians to practice compassionate patient care. She served as the Clerkship and Curriculum Chair for the Department for six years. In recognition of her outstanding dedication to patient care along with teaching, Dr. Nicholas was honored with a Teaching Humanism Award from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Dr. Nicholas has also been appointed as the Vice Chair of Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion for UCLA Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is committed to address and tackle the challenges of structural racism and inequity in medicine, particularly relative to women’s health care.

Dr. Nicholas has extended her clinical expertise and education skills across the globe to the continent of Africa through her involvement with Medicine for Humanity, an organization committed to “healing women and training doctors” with the intent of “restoring dignity, hope and quality of life for women”.

Dr. Nicholas continues to pursue her personal mission and vision to bring forth the realization of being a catalyst for meaningful growth and transformation to create and gel the beloved community.
