Dr. Ghassemi completed his undergraduate education at UCLA and earned his medical degree from the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine. He then returned to UCLA, where he completed both his residency in internal medicine and fellowship training in digestive diseases.

A board-certified gastroenterologist, Dr. Ghassemi specializes in general gastroenterology with expertise in esophageal disorders, gastrointestinal motility, and colorectal cancer screening. He serves as co-clinical chief of the UCLA Melvin and Bren Simon Digestive Diseases Center and medical director of the UCLA Robert G. Kardashian Center for Esophageal Health, where he leads multidisciplinary efforts to advance patient care for complex esophageal conditions.

Dr. Ghassemi is recognized for his contributions to clinical research and medical education. He has co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters focused on gastrointestinal bleeding and esophageal diseases, helping to advance knowledge and best practices in the field. Deeply committed to training the next generation of gastroenterologists, he plays a central leadership role in UCLA’s Digestive Diseases Fellowship Program and serves as chair of the Endoscopic Training Committee, overseeing the development of advanced procedural and clinical competencies among fellows.

It was very helpful to meet with Dr Ghassemi. We have exchanged info via portal and phone during a period of time I could not meet in person. We formulated two plans to address a long standing post surgical issue. These 2 new options are much appreciated.
