About

Dr. Jessica Sheu Haslam is a board-eligible psychiatrist with UCLA Behavioral Health Associates, providing integrated psychiatric care within the collaborative care model at UCLA Health Westlake Village. She is deeply honored and grateful to be the first UCLA psychiatrist providing in-person care, as well as video visits, in the Conejo Valley and to continue serving patients within the UCLA Health community.

Dr. Haslam is passionate about building strong, collaborative relationships with patients and primary care clinicians. She believes in providing thoughtful, whole-person care that addresses both mental and physical health and works closely with colleagues across disciplines to help each patient receive individualized, high-quality care.

She treats adults with depression, bipolar disorder, psychotic disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety disorders, ADHD, student mental health concerns, and co-occurring complex medical conditions. She also provides psychotherapy and has a particular interest in reproductive psychiatry and women’s mental health. Her clinical interests include psychiatric care before, during, and after pregnancy; medication management during pregnancy and breastfeeding; emotional and psychiatric concerns following miscarriage and pregnancy loss; infertility and assisted reproductive technology; premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD); and mood and anxiety disorders associated with perimenopause. She is also interested in emerging and novel therapeutic approaches to psychiatric disorders.

Dr. Haslam earned her undergraduate degree from Rice University, where she double majored in Biochemistry & Cell Biology and Kinesiology/Sports Medicine and graduated with Distinction in Research and Creative Works. She then earned her medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine, where she was recognized with the prestigious Hilde Bruch Excellence in Psychiatry Award, awarded to one graduating student. She completed her psychiatry residency at the UCLA Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior, serving in leadership roles as both Program-Wide Chief Resident and Inpatient Chief Resident at UCLA Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital. During residency, she also received the David Geffen School of Medicine’s Excellence in Mentorship Award.

Her academic work includes several peer-reviewed publications in psychiatry, including research on obsessive-compulsive disorder that has been cited more than 20 times and gut-brain health.

Originally from Rowland Heights, California, Dr. Haslam grew up in a close-knit Taiwanese family and Asian community. She spent a decade in Houston completing her undergraduate and medical training before returning home to Los Angeles to complete her psychiatry training and join UCLA Health. She met her husband in Houston; he is a native Texan and a pulmonary and critical care physician at UCLA Health Hampshire Clinic in Thousand Oaks.

Outside of work, Dr. Haslam enjoys starting her days with running and weightlifting, exploring the trails throughout the Conejo Valley, getting lost in her next nonfiction book, and experimenting in the kitchen with healthy recipes featuring whole-food ingredients. She looks forward to bringing her passion for mental health, health and wellness, and collaborative care to the Conejo Valley and greater Los Angeles and Ventura County communities.

Dr. Haslam is a member of the American Psychiatric Association.
