About
James Lin MD is a graduate of Brown University '93 (ScB) and '97 (MD). He completed training in pediatrics (2000) and pediatric critical care medicine (2003) at Mass General Hospital for Children, prior to joining the faculty at Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA. During fellowship, Dr. Lin completed an RSV fellowship with pulmonologist Dr. Howard Panitch at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Dr. Lin has published original research on diverse topics including radiological and clinical predictors of RSV outcomes in critically ill children, the role of dietary lipids and cyclooxygenase-2 enzyme in intestinal inflammation, anti-atherogenic role of COX-2, magnetic separation of COX-2 enzyme products, single cell transfection dynamics of molecular beacons, the effect of syringe size on reliability and safety of low flow infusions, the association between red blood cell transfusions and nosocomial infections in PICU patients, a novel mathematical expression for probability of inclusion in a point prevalence study, noninvasive positive pressure in pediatric critical illness, the effects of antibiotic route on neonatal pain, and antibiotic stewardship in pediatric long-term care. His editorial with Dr. Andranik Madikians on “bronchiolitis in critical care” ranks among the top hits on Google and Bing search engines. Dr. Lin’s current clinical and research interests include pediatric intensive care ultrasound, ethics of organ procurement from deceased persons who have not made an anatomical gift, measures to improve low flow infusion reliability, and microbiology of chronically ill children.
