Amy M. Richards, MD

Dr. Richards earned her undergraduate degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and her medical doctorate from UCLA. She completed family medicine residency and her fellowship in Addiction Medicine at UCLA.She is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the UCLA Department of Family Medicine, where she practices as board-certified Addiction Medicine specialist and works as a primary care physician. Her expertise includes the diagnosis and management of substance use disorders, and treating chronic pain in both inpatient and outpatient settings. She is also board-certified in Family Medicine and works in full spectrum family medicine, to include pediatric care, women’s health, geriatric care. Her treatment objectives include prioritizing patients’ goals, whole-person care and practicing evidence-based medicine.

Her practice is further enriched by serving as a research clinician at the UCLA Center for Behavioral and Addiction Medicine, where her work focuses on access to addiction medicine services for marginalized populations, specifically for individuals who are experiencing homelessness and for pregnant persons who use substances. She enjoys teaching fellows, residents and medical students at UCLA. During her free time, she enjoys all types of sports, being outdoors, and traveling with her husband and their three boys.
