Amie S. Patel, DO

Amie Patel is an internal medicine and pediatrics physician with expertise in the comprehensive care of adolescents and adults living with sickle cell disease. She earned her medical degree from Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Patel completed her Med-Peds residency at Loma Linda University and pursued a combined pediatric/adult fellowship in sickle cell disease at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

At UCLA Health, Dr. Patel serves as associate director of the Adult Sickle Cell Program, where she is helping to develop a comprehensive model of care that bridges hematology and primary care. Inspired by her late sister’s journey with sickle cell disease, she is deeply committed to improving the transition from pediatric to adult care, enhancing coordination across specialties, and addressing both the medical and psychosocial needs of her patients.

Her clinical interests include ensuring completion of health maintenance for adults with sickle cell disease, expanding access to preventive disease-modifying therapies, and strengthening health system structures to better serve this population. She is also dedicated to advancing alternative approaches to chronic pain, fostering community engagement, and designing innovative care models that integrate patient navigation to support patients between visits. Additionally, Dr. Patel is passionate about expanding access to clinical trials and gene therapy through community engagement while empowering patients with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions about their care.
