Alexander P. Sung, MD, PhD, MS

Dr. Alex Sung is a primary care physician at the UCLA Pasadena Primary Care Clinic. Dr. Sung is board certified in internal medicine and graduated with both an MD and PhD from the University of Nevada School of Medicine. He completed his medical residency in internal medicine at the USC Keck School of medicine/LAC+USC Medical Center. Dr. Sung also holds a master’s degree in biotechnology and two undergraduate degrees from the University of Nevada, Reno.

Dr. Sung’s research expertise is in the field of immunology, specifically a special type of white blood cell called natural killer cells. He earned his PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology from the University of Nevada School of Medicine, where he studied these cells. Dr. Sung completed his MD and PhD in just four years, the fastest in the school’s history, compared to the typical seven or more years. He received a research fellowship from the American Association of Immunologists for his work on natural killer cells. Dr. Sung is also a clinical educator at the UCLA School of Medicine and is enthusiastic about working with students at all levels.

Dr. Sung was born and raised in Reno, Nevada. He spent his summers in Hong Kong and moved to Los Angeles for residency. In his time away from work, Dr. Sung enjoys basketball skiing, travelling, and trying new restaurants. He also likes making desserts, attending sporting events and relaxing at the beach. Dr. Sung is fluent in both English and Cantonese. Dr. Sung maintains memberships with the American College of Physicians and American Association of Immunologists.
